Stony Brook Preview
http://towsonfans.com/forums/index.php?/chat/

(don't forget we're chatting at 3:30pm. Need to start getting 20-25 people. Last year, I could only fit about 12 on that free site. Now we can fit 250).

Towson (2-3, 0-1 CAA) faces another difficult challenge at home when they take on Stony Brook (1-4, 0-1 CAA) from Unitas Stadium on Saturday at 3:30pm. This is the final game of the homestand and will be broadcast on CSN and 1300AM.

Last year, the Tigers faced the Seawolves for the first time and were trailing 21-10 at the half. But Towson scored 25 unanswered points in the second half, highlighted by Darius Victor's 31-yard touchdown run with 2:38 left in the game to break a 21-21 tie. With 42 seconds left, Donnell Lewis had a 43-yard fumble recovery return for a touchdown to seal the win for the Tigers.

Stony Brook opened their season with a 13-7 home loss to Bryant, who also beat Maine this season. They followed that with a tough loss at Connecticut, 19-16. Their only win took place at home as they downed American International, 20-3. On Sept. 20, they fell at North Dakota from Grand Forks, 13-3. Then last week, the Seawolves lost a heartbreaker to William & Mary at home, 27-21 in overtime.

Both teams have similar issues offensively, but the Stony Brook has the edge on defnse. They allow just 15.4 points per game to Towson's 27.8 (which was hurt by playing West Virginia). They average 132 rushing yards a game compared to 194 for Towson and 137 yards passing per game (Towson averages just 116 ypg). Stony Brook's defense is very impressive, as they allow just 88 rushing yards per agme and 139.4 passing yards per game.

They held William & Mary to just 97 yards rushing, but allowed 243 passing yards. They rank eight in FCS in rush defense and second in total defense, allowing 227 yards per game.

Junior quarterback Conor Bednarski (6-3, 210) gets the start He's a transfer from Fullerton College. He started his first game last week and played well, completing 16 for 29 for 189 yards. For the year, he's completed just 42.4 percent of his passes with two Tds and one pick. He took for Syracuse transfer John Kinder, who threw for 356 yards with one TD and three INTs.

At running back, Stony Brook is led by UMass transfer Stacey Bedell (5-10, 185), who has 401 yards and three TDs with a 5.6 yards per carry average. Senior Marcus Coker (6-0, 225) is also a dangerous runner and another transfer (Iowa), who played his high school ball at DeMatha. Cooker rushed for over 1,000 yards in 2012, but then injuries hampered his 2013 campaign as he played in just two games. This year, Coker has rushed fr 142 yards (2.7ypc) and has one score.

The star of the offense this season is Maryland transfer wide receiver Adrian Coxson (6-1, 215), a City College graduat who leads the Seawolves with 15 catches for 271 yards and two scores. Senior TE Will Tye (6-3, 260) is a Florida State transfer and a dangerous threat in the middle of the field with 13 catches for 218 yards and a score.

On the offensive line, Stony Brook has three seniors on the right side and at center, who average over 300 pounds. They are also big on the left side, but both LT Timon Parris (6-5, 300) and LG Armani Garrick (6-3, 300) are redshirt freshmen.

Defensively, the Seawolves play a 4-3 scheme with quality experience at all four positions. However, atnose tackle, Dante Allen (6-5, 275) is projected to start his first game, though he has played 24 games. Allen made three tackles against Towson last season, including one for loss. He has 10 tackles thi season and 30 for his career.

Sophomore Aaron Thompson (6-3, 280) is second on the team wiht eight tackles for loss, has one fumble recovery, one forced fumble and a blocked pass.

Junior DE Victor Ochi (6-2, 250) is the playmaker, who had five sacks and 10.0 tackles for loss last year. He's off to a strong start this season, with 3.0 sacks, 26 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss.

They play two linebackers and a rover in senior Christian Ricard (6-1, 205), Ricard was named second-team All-CAA last year, after record 91 tackles. This year, he leads the team with 35 tackles, 6.0 sacks and 11.5 tackles for loss.

The secondary is led by junior free safety Naim Cheeseboro (6-1, 210), who had 69 tackles last season. This year, he ranks second on the team with 34 tackles and also has two interceptions and a fumble recovery.

They have two experienced corners led by senior Davonte Anderson (5-9, 185), who has 14 tackles, one interception and three pass breakups. He has 13 interceptions and 21 pass breakups for his career.
