Chart: Which NCAA Football Teams Outplay Their Recruit Rankings?

NIU is second in the nation in terms of outperforming their recruiting rankings. Navy is first. NIU was ranked 55.2 positions higher in on field performance than they were in recruiting rankings. Interesting stuff.

Confusing statistics but great headline for NIU.

NIU does as good of a job as anyone recruiting to fit their system.

It's just the difference between the five year average of the team's Rivals recruiting ranking and Massey's composite ranking. NIU's BCS average is 43.6 and our Rivals average ranking is 98.8

We are rank 101 out of 117 in recruiting. I always thought we did better than that.

They've also done a good job of hiring coaches that know the system and kept it going so there hasn't been an "adjustment" year or two waiting for the guys that fit a new system to get recruited/be ready.

This would be great to show recruits trying to decide between NIU and the team down south. If you go to NIU, you'll get better, if you go south, you'll get worse.

I think a lot of this, at least from about 2011 to the present, is the result of getting "two star players" from Florida who are twice as talented as a 2* from Mount Prospect or some other Chicago suburb.

The talent is in the south, and NIU understands that getting Florida and Florida State's sloppy seconds is better than U of I or Iowa's.

The biggest reason for NIU's recent success is two 2 star QBs who only had one offer each to play and they were from Illinois and Indiana.

NIU's getting a ton of skill position guys from down south and I think that's a great strategy, but there's been plenty of 2* midwest guys they've turned into gold too.

RE: Chart: Which NCAA Football Teams Outplay Their Recruit Rankings?
I mean, look at the starters on offense on the two deep this week:

Brown (Chicago)
Beebe (Aurora) OR Turner (Ohio)
Eakes (Kansas)/Maxwell (Chicago)
Loos (Sterling)
Conlon (Homewood-Flossmor)
Ness (Missouri)
Pitt (Georgia)
Brown (Elburn)
Hare (Missouri)
Sterling (Lansing)
Akeem (Florida)/Cam (Romeoville)/ACRB (Aurora)

They do a good job finding talent no matter where it is.

This just goes to show what happens when you put on the Cardinal and Black and step onto Brigham Field at Huskie Stadium. It brings out the best in everyone!
