Sources: Golden turned down BC
Sources familiar with the situation have confirmed a Boston Globe report that Temple head football coach Al Golden declined to be interviewed by Boston College for its vacant position.

The Atlantic Coast Conference member made inquiries to speak to Golden after Tom O'Brien left last Friday to take the North Carolina State job. But Golden, who just completed his first season on North Broad Street, did not want to talk. He was a member of the Boston College staff from 1997-99.

The Owls, who will join the Mid-American Conference next season, were 1-11 this year as an independent. The Eagles (9-3), the only program to win a bowl game each of the last six seasons, will play Navy in the Meineke Car Care Bowl in Charlotte, N.C., on Dec. 30.

Former Massachusetts head coach Mark Whipple, currently a Pittsburgh Steelers assistant, is considered the leading candidate to replace O'Brien.

Well at least the BC coach left of his own free will for GREENER :bcs: :bcs: :bcs: pastures warmer winters, and earlier springs. Maybe they couldn't all get along up there. But at least BC didn't shove him out the door like Bama and Miami did to their coaches. I hope these larger schools have an extremely hard time getting coaches and I hope they have to pay through the nose and through the ass to get new coaches. Maybe the larger schools will temper themselves and not fire a coach a year or two after 10 & 2 seasons with bowl wins and 2 runs at a national championship and capture one. Maybe the schools building programs won't have their coaches stolen from them either. Arrogant schools like Bama and Miami that throw coaches away like garbage for a Monday morning delivery to the landfill deserve all the problems they get and no loyalty at all from the fans, students, or anyone who would take their jobs. There is just too much booster intervention and pressure at a couple of schools like Bama and Miami and they should be given the FB death penalty for a few years to real a few of those arrogant bastards in but they won't. So let them be pissed every few years and fire good coaches so they can continue to flounder like Bama and Miami who now have problems getting coaches and they deserve those problems too. 04-chairshot 05-mafia 01-lauramac2 04-rock :outraged: :sylviaplath: 03-nerner :johnkerry: :rocker: 07-coffee3

Alabama Dogged Their Own Family
The worst part about the way Alabama fired Mike Shula after he got them off probation and went 10-2 just one year ago is the fact that he is an alumnus and former star player there. How can any school treat their own family like that? He took a step back this year at 6-6 but at least the Crimson Tide still hit the .500 mark. They completely disgust me. I hope Alabama gets destroyed in their bowl game and suffers five straight losing seasons after the way Mal Moore and company acted this month.

Golden has a bit of integrity - good for him.

Unlike Dennis Erickson, who went back to Idaho - the school where he had originally gotten his start, I believe - and then left them after only 1 season to take the Arizona State job.
