It's true. Illegals I have spoken too used to go back to the interior of Mexico in the winter. The border fence simply made them stay all year around.

This is my experience as well. There used to be a ton of people that worked during the spring and summer and went back home during the late fall or early winter just in time for Christmas. Back in the mid-eighties/early nineties it was a running joke that if you got caught by immigration on Friday you could still make work by Monday morning. While I'm sure this was an exaggeration, it does go on to show that it was very easy to cross the border back then.
Now with the fence and ramped up number of officials guarding the border the chances of having a successful crossing are actually pretty slim. I know people that haven't seen their kids, aside from pictures, in over ten years. Essentially its created a situation where the illegals on this side of the border have practically abandoned their families and moved on with their lives. They still send money, but its more along the lines of child support and alimony. Meanwhile they started their own families here. Its all unintended consequences of our government doing everything half-assed. Which is the only way they can do things it seems like.

Without a doubt. I know some undocumented workers who now wire their earnings home. Stating that it's too risky now to go back home.

That might be the case where you are at, but here in SC the jobs that the illegals are doing were all done by people more than willing to do them for minimum wage.

The difference is the illegals are now doing the same jobs for less than minimum wage because they will work seven days a week for 12-14 hours a day and they can have a couple kids and the US government will support them.

So now fit thinks tearing down the fence will help with illegals.

Actually, I think one of the big issues we have is our totally inept immigration and naturalization service. IMO, the out and out total inefficiency of yet another government entity is why so many circumvent the system. The government rarely, if ever, does anything efficiently.

If it were efficient, maybe those wishing to come here would use the system

I never said tearing down the fence would help "illegals". What the fence does do however is make migrant workers into permanent residents.

So what you're saying is that 12,000,000 illegals are smart enough to sneak in but too dumb to sneak out? And does Mexico stop Mexican's from re-entering their country?

Too dumb to sneak out? They don't go back because the fence makes it too hard. Without the fence, the came and went freely.
