For 3 1/2 quarters, I enjoyed watching Ole Miss fans squirm uneasily in their pressed khakis. They were shocked, too. And less sure, I imagine, that Bo is the be-all, end-all.

They simply worse us down and we finally broke late in the 4th, You could see it developing.

Considering where we were coming into the season, WOW we are getting good.

We will be able to win a game like this against this level of competition next year imo.
It may take a few more years but we are getting there. We just are not deep enough right now. The change in this team and the last few years should be obvious to anybody. They are being coached well, but Fuente can't get his QB hurt in a game like this, and we aren't going to win if we can't run anyway. You have to run the ball to let the defense rest. Sometimes you are just outgunned. Give Fuente time to arm this team and we will be just fine, I'm convinced of that. We have made giant strides under him already, but he is not a miracle worker. Obviously the man and his staff know what they are doing.

No comment on the Black Bears, except to say RC wouldn't hire Hugh Freeze because Freeze would have had him fired once he got in there. Porter was just a yes man and someone RC could continue his charade with. Had we truly committed to football during RCs tenure we wouldn't be in this shape now. He and Spock didn't think it was important to the Universitys' overall welfare or perception. Besides that, RC was living the dream, cruising into the sunset and his own island, just waiting to jump while the ship was sinking. Lucky he didn't get investigated more thoroughly and Bowen handled it all internally. By golly, He did it!

We got demolished by a great D, some God awful playcalling, and our WRs reverting back (as Cal used to say) to some bad habits.

Memphis football is Memphis football.

At the end of the day- my OM buddies and I all got drunk, all pushed our bets, and I can laugh at their K who got tossed and cost them the cover. Too bad Josh wont be "classeless" like Freeze and run it up against them when he gets the chance in the next few years.

Your post seems as delusional as any here.

The game was tight as it gets for 3.5 quarters, That is not an a55 whipping just because of the final score. Its was an incredibly competitive and close game until the end.

I also have to laugh at everyone continuing to post that the offense "didn't show up". lol

The fact of the matter is OM still has a lot more talent and their defense crushed our offense.

Our guys showed up and gave it their all, we just aren't good enough yet to beat stronger SEC teams. Getting close now, but still not there.

Fuente is a damn good coach and we are improving much faster than anyone though we would.

their defense is as fast as ucla's but much bigger and played perfect positioning all night. just impressed with them. ucla's offense is better though. did anyone not notice that we had to play our 3rd string freshman running back the entire second half because hayes and dorcius were out hurt? i will criticise our wide recievers though. bad effort. granted lynch was hurried and running around which screws up timing BUT there a few balls where with a little more effort they could have made plays. that group took a step back last night

I was there and heard the same thing. Memphis almost covered before completely running out of gas on D on that last TD. The game obviously was much closer for most of the game than the final score even with our Offense issues. We live and learn and get better

The wait for the shuttle was almost longer than the game. And HWY 7 was backed-up all the way to 78.

Never again. Never again.

I tried to tell y'all. If they were halfway nice fans, it might be tolerable. But to go down there and take their abuse and have to witness all the ridiculousness, no way.

It actually used to be very pleasant to go down there and tailgate in the Grove. Now, it's a total madhouse.

Again, we're gonna win 8-10 games.

I would prefer 4-0 with wins @ Southern Miss and @ UAB.

We're going to be better next season and even better after that. In 2 years we'll be beating teams like UCLA and Ole Miss. We're definitely on the right track.

In 2 years we'll be beating the #10 & #11 ranked teams?

Come on, man! Don't set the bar so low!!!

Lol, I was referring to our quality depth and experience especially on Offense. We're still pretty young overall in a lot of key positions.

We're just a key few pieces away from being very, very good. Also, I loved the fact we played Ole Miss and UCLA. It showed us how far we've come. I'm 100% down for playing USM and UAB, but replace MT State and Austin Peay with them.

There isn't an offense left on the schedule like UCLA's, and there isn't a defense left remotely close to Ole Miss. Ole Miss was a sellout and UCLA had 73k. Our team won't face that the rest of the season either.

Love this team. I do think we play a little too conservative and we dropped a few passes but other than that we lost as expected but showed everyone else we're moving forward.

We have the potential to win 8-10 games and if we win out 11 wow! The Crazy thing is we can say that and actually believe it. 11 is unrealistic as we might drop at least 1 more, but 8-10 is not only realistic but very reasonable expectations.

Who would have thought that 3 years ago or even last season? We're a top 40 ish team. We held Ole Miss to about half their season average, and gave UCLA all they wanted.

Bring on the AAC!

on the bright side, missippi dropped in the AP poll to No. 11. maybe it was karma biting the black bears in the butt for going for that late TD.

RE: ***Official Memphis @ Mississippi Game Thread***
8 wins would be a lot more likely without 2 L's already on the books.

I almost said needless L's, but we'll get 2 big crowds in the Liberty Bowl in the future, presumably. I don't think the trade off is worth it if we could have played 2 lower D-1 teams and been sitting here 4-0 with a fairly realistic chance of putting up a big # of W's. A Tiger team with a very high winning % would put a lot of people in the LB, not the 60k+ that we expect from the return games in the future, but very good crowds. A 7-4 Tiger team going for the 8th win will not bring out a huge crowd, a 9-2 team going for #10 probably would.
