OT - student tailgating to be banned ???
http://www.thetowerlight.com/2014/09/pre...efinitely/

this just in ... TU is the first school to have student intoxicated before the games.

Full disclosure -- I have a daughter at TU who is not 21. I understand she is tailgating, but she is responsible and not driving. I certainly want these students t be safe, but from an athletics standpoint .... we need the student s to be going to the games. No tailgating = drinking somewhere else. Perhaps driving. Those are just the facts.

There was an incident at the NC Central game. I was afraid this was going to happen. They need to have more police presence because from what I heard, some kids were out of control, doing acrobatic things and somebody seriously can get hurt or worse. There goes the attendance.04-jawdrop

I know. I didn't want to specify here because you never know who reads this. When you see something like that, you tend to overreact. She thought somebody would catch her. The last thing they want is somebody to get paralyzed or even worse at a football game tailgate.

Check out the eloquent comments on that towerlight article. I concur with the students 100 percent.

Not to mention, student apathy surrounding TU sports will skyrocket.

RE: OT - student tailgating to be banned ???
I was at the Towson/JMU game and tailgate last season and did mentally note that it got pretty rowdy. While I understand the TU administration in trying to avoid another incident from a liability standpoint, I don't think banning students from tailgating is going to help the athletic department.

Add in a few more cops who make it known that you can't have open containers and who will contain any excessive behavior and call it a day. Also, send carts around collecting people's trash throghout the tailgate. The post game lot was like a war zone last season, there was more garbage in the parking lot than wearing purple on the field.

Typical Deb Moriarity. She over reacts to an incident. This will kill the attendance at games, but DM does not care. SHe hates Athletics!

OK, Cooler heads prevailed. Student Tailgating is not banned. Here is the story from the Towerlight:

New tailgating policy being discussed over 2 days in lieu of suspension
23 September 2014 By Cody Boteler, News Editor 34 Comments
Update (Sept. 24, 2:22 p.m.): After meeting about a proposal that would have suspended all student tailgating at football games, the President’s Council has announced it will spend the next two days discussing a policy for this Saturday’s game against Maine rather than suspending it.

The outcome of the discussions will be announced on Friday, according to an email sent out by Vice President for Student Affairs Deb Moriarty.

“In lieu of suspending tailgating in lot 14 this weekend, we will spend the next 2 days working with student leaders to address the complexities of enforcing our tailgating policies and procedures and to identify new parameters for this Saturday’s game,” the email reads. “The outcome of these discussions will be announced by Friday morning via T3, Facebook and an all campus message. We will continue these conversations with our campus community to further identify long term solutions that address our shared concerns.”

The President’s Deputy Chief of Staff Marina Cooper said the President’s Council opted to work toward improving the current policy and focusing on its enforcement rather than suspending tailgating.

“We looked at the existing tailgating policy, and decided that it is pretty good. It’s a sound policy, that if followed and enforced, would look like a great tailgating experience for anyone. Our discussion will likely start there,” she said.

Cooper also said the Council didn’t want to ban tailgating as to not turn anyone away from the athletic program.

“We have a thriving athletics program that we want people to support and we want to create safe avenues when they can support that,” she said. “And we want to bring people on to our campus, not push them away. We like the whole gameday experience. We want to continue to nurture that.”

So how do we get Deb Moriarty fired? Seems like everyone that has ever worked with her has strong feelings of dislike.

I just hope the school does not have the security staff harass those of us in Lot 13. For as long as I have been tailgating in the alumni/season ticket holder/donor lot I have yet to see someone needing corrective behavior. Yet on regular occasion the security staff insists on being nosy and making unnecessary inquiries. The monitoring obviously needs to be go on in the student lot. Spend your resources in the student lot and please don’t overreact by harassing the donor lot.

DM was always obnoxious when i was there. She acts like being drunk shouldn't happen at a tailgate. That's what it's for!!!!! These kids need to learn how to be adults and make responsible decisions. Let then do stupid stuff if they want. Dont take away everyones fun just because some idiot got hurt.
