RE: Week 5 - gag me
yeah this week is typically the worst week of the entire season(right up there with the week before Thanksgiving a lot of times).

It gets better next week with already 6 top 25 matchups, and a 7th is Arizona/Oregon where both are 4-0.

The Ole Miss/Memphis game will be interesting...Ole Miss has made it into the top 10 by playing absolutely nobody so far while Memphis has had games against a tough MTSU and played to the wire against #11 UCLA. Intriguing at least

I'm pretty sure OSU didn't even play any in-state schools between 1934 (Western Reserve) and 1992 (Bowling Green). Even those were aberrations - they were the only games between 1932-1996.

Yeah, I was mostly referring to the years instead of an actual winning streak that's in place. If Miami had played OSU in the sixties or early 70's while Schembechler/Mallory/Crum were coaching (or against Toledo in their heyday) then they might've lost one.

On a side note, I think my Miami team will end their 20-game losing streak at Buffalo this weekend, it's about damn time.

The college and NFL games are pretty sorry this weekend...not that the NFL reguarly puts out a good product anyway, especially for those who live out of market of their favorite team.

RE: Week 5 - gag me
I wonder whether the lack of marquee games this weekend has anything to do with it being Ryder Cup week. Golf isn't usually even a factor on anybody's radar screen, but this event attracts a pretty big audience.

I really don't think so. Normally the last week of major OOC games is a pretty shallow slate.

1. Arkansas vs Texas AM -- let's see how good Arkansas really is. This will be a great game to watch in what it reveals.

2. Missouri vs S Carolina -- How good/medicore is Missouri? I think they're decent. Good game to watch.

3. Stanford vs Wash -- Washington's undefeated despite being unreanked. A nice PAC12 game to watch.

4. Oregon St vs USC -- Oregon St's undefeated. USC lost to BC, which needed the 2nd half to solidly beat UMass? Hmmmmm, this sparks curiosity!

5. Cincinnati vs Ohio State -- VaTech which flopped twice already beat OSU. This is an in-state game. How good is Cinci? They only played two games. Let's find out!

B10 Fans:

1. Iowa @Purdue -- Purdue seems to have improved somewhat, at least. Iowa? Wow. Shocker. This will be interesting to see what happens.

2. Maryland @Indiana -- Okay, Indiana, you beat Missouri. Do you have enough to protect the B1G from a new-comer? How good is Maryland anyway? Better than BGSU? :)

3. Minnesota @ UM -- This one should be interesting. Mediocre B10 team faces UM -- can UM get their morale up? How is Hoke going to respond? Or the whole team? I think UM will win BIG -- but let's find out, right?

MAC LOVERS:

1. WMU @ VaTech -- Okay, interesting only to check out for non-WMU fans, but still. WMU never scored a point against VaTech. WMU looks on their way up from last year's laughable season. Can PJ Fleck challenge VaTech, who's 2-2 and looking to take their anger out on WMU? We shall see. If WMU were to pull the upset, that'll give ECU a big hit on their biggest "win" of the season. Even a mild hit if WMU makes it a pretty close game.

2. Akron @ Pitt -- The spread's 20 points, which is way too high if Akron is the team they're supposed to be this year. Last year, Akron almost beat UM. Akron hasn't impressed this year, losing to Penn State (relatively close most of the game) and big to Marshall at home. But can Bowden point Akron toward where they're supposed to be? Pitt lost to Iowa -- and isn't an impressive team. Fear the Roo! I want to see how good Akron REALLY is.

3. CMU @ Toledo -- CMU has their star RB & WR back. This may be the team that THUMPED Purdue 2nd week of the season and not the one stomped by Syracuse at home & losing @Kansas. Toledo was the pre-season favorite by many in the MAC West, but Toledo's shaky on discipline and turning yards into points. And their D kinda sucks in the air, but has good potential against ground games. This is a very important MAC West game!

The CMU/Toledo game could be a MACtion game if those guys are back for CMU. CMU's WR is a very good one and Rawls at RB is good too. Toledo usually can score a good deal of points.

One of the best rivalry games in the south is on ESPNU tonight at 7:30 ET.

App St at Georgia Southern should be a great one to watch with an expected sellout crowd. #HAILSOUTHERN

That ought to be a pretty good game. It will probably be a better game to watch than the Oklahoma State-Texas Tech game. I figure the Cowboys will roll over the Red Raiders. I haven't been impressed at all with Texas Tech this season.

The late game will be a good one too. Arizona State and UCLA are both pretty good teams. I do find it interesting that the #15 team in the polls is favored over the #11 team. Sounds like the polls got it wrong again. Imagine that.

ESPN's odds say UCLA(#11) is favored by 4 over Arizona St(#15). Even if ASU had been a 1-2 pt favorite- that wouldn't necessarily have meant the polls got it wrong, just that ASU was home.

Last nights Big 12/PAC double header of Okie State/Texas Tech and UCLA/ASU was very entertaining. Glad I watched most of both games rather than the lousy NFL game.

Very good start to the college football weekend.

UCLA won by more than 30, so somebody got something wrong, LOL- namely whoever was responsible for ASU's pass defense and stopping that little Adams dude.

It's not often you have 38 first downs and over 600 yards and yet lose by 35, but ASU pulled it off.

The way ASU pulled that off was by having a huge edge in time of possession. You get that huge edge by getting the ball back quickly. The right way to get the ball back quickly is by stopping the other team's O. The wrong way is to keep letting the other team score in the blink of an eye. UCLA had four TD plays of 80 yards or more (including a pick-six and a kickoff return) and two more TDs on top of that in drives of 3 plays or less.

I am starting to believe Memphis may be pretty darn good. Maybe the Rebs can be had.

What we learned from the UCLA vs ASU game? UCLA is the team everyone has said they could be. ASU could very well be that team next year after all the youngsters get a year of experience behind them. Five returning starters or something like that. Not bad for such inexperience. Unfortunately there was so much talk about this team contending for the PAC that these kids are destined for a let down this year. That could pay dividends next year though if they keep their expectations high.
