Only 1 coach will have ever ridden off the field on the shoulders of the players at Tenn Tech & that will happen this weekend.

Yes. You are #1.

Yes. The picture with 'The Barh' brought back yesterday's under-cooked lunch for me.

To be honest. I'm more than a little concerned about his record. If it's discovered that he's been involved with some academic improprieties during his past coaching career, will he be forced to vacate some of his losses, dropping him back to 2nd place (or lower) - forcing him to coach several more years before reclaiming what's rightfully his????

"At some point, perhaps as soon as Saturday, when Tennessee Tech plays at No. 10 Northern Iowa, Coach Quixote will own the record. He will be the first man to lose 200 games.

"I didn't know that. But it doesn't surprise me," Watson Brown said. "Who's had the jobs I've had and is still a head coach?"

Brown is a man of many excuses... and that is why he fails.

RE: zero ties record
He turned down an offer to play for the "bear".

His Vandy team beat the "bear" during his sophomore year.

His 2000 UAB team beat LSU.

Quote:And then UAB called and asked him to take the football program into I-A. Everything he thought he knew about being at the bottom of the football food chain had to be revised.

"I mean, we're dressing in shifts in an intramural locker room," Brown said. "... We had a sinkhole in the practice field. We had to put cones in the sinkhole and work around it."

Quote:Watson has begun to bring Tennessee Tech football into the 21st century, There's the new training center, a slightly smaller version of an FBS facility. The dowager Tucker Stadium has been dressed up as best she can, and the university is about to embark on a campaign for a $60 million renovation.

Watson recently signed a five-year contract extension. He will help see the stadium project to fruition, and try to win another Ohio Valley Conference championship. That's right: another one. In 2011, for the first time in his lengthy career, Watson Brown finished first in the league.

When Brown loses his next game, it won't be the first national coaching record he set. Last year, Watson and Mack surpassed the Dooleys, Vince and Bill, to become the brothers with the most victories in major college football. The Browns, together again, are at 372 victories and counting.

I left out the word more. I never had a coach I enjoyed working with more in my 40 plus years

I covered Watson for his entire UAB career and never had a coach that I enjoyed working with in my 40 plus years as a sportswriter. Keep your head up Watson. It takes something special to be employed long enough to lose 200 games.

Oh absolutely. McMoron's 2 years of misery and Callaway's merry band of rejects made for quality football all those years.

Watson never accomplished anything!

Callaway was busy losing to Southern Miss 70-14 only to be outdone by McMoron's 62-27 loss to a school winless since 2011.

*sigh*

Mrs. Brown, try to objectively look at the APR/scholarship hole your son left Callaway in

The Watson Brown Story - Small town coach becomes the Biggest Loser.

Big question is who would play Brown? We would have to have a young guy play a young Watson and then an older actor later in life.

03-lmfao I have to marinate on that one, I'm trying to think of any actors that may bear a resemblance to Watson (I thought that Callaway's nickname was "Zero", not Watson)...

That was a very interesting article. I never knew that about his arm. Some of you need to quit feeding trolls so you can get over that period and let bygones be bygones. Bitterness eats you up inside.

RE: zero ties record
Nah. I was here standing on the sidelines watching football practices when Watson was HC. You and I both know that his standard game plan for playing teams better than us was to ugly it up, run the clock, and pray that we were not so far behind that we couldn't attempt to squeak out a win in the last minutes.

Once in a while, that worked. More often, it led to "We lose at Tennessee by seven. We lose at Oklahoma by seven. We lose at Georgia by three." - All of which are, at the end of the season, found under "Loss", see also "Moral Victory".

I'm not bitter about that, it's part of our history. I just reject the attempt at revisionist history that says that just because it wasn't as bad as it got later under Callaway and McGee, it didn't stink.

It did, like a big ol' manure pile left out in the sun. The stench lingered long after Zero was gone, and affected Callaway. I don't think he was ever going to be a good head coach, but leaving him with 45 players sure didn't help.

Say what you want about Callaway, he went right after UT. Pushed 'em all over the field.

But for a pick-6 and 5 (Jesus wept) missed field goals (let that sink in, a 21 point swing), we'd have embarrassed their ugly orange asses.
