RE: Northwestern State 30 - La Tech 27
This morning, a columnist for the Tampa Bay Times, who is decidedly NOT a Skip Holtz fan, made sure to mention that Northwestern State scored twice in the last minute or so to take the win over an FCS squad that hadn't won and FBS game since 2009. He takes every opportunity to dismiss USF's and Willie Taggart's lack of success, thus far (all thought I think they will be fine, if they stick with him) by blaming all on Skip and his abysmal recruiting of players while at USF.

Wow. I just realized La Tech has Auburn this week. Now i know why they lost. They have been gameplanning auburn for 2 weeks. No safer bet on this planet than La Tech with the points vs auburn this week.

No the reason tech lost is the same way they lost 8 last year. Crappy play calling on O and D and players that were not prepared to play a football game. As soon as tech feels any pressure, they fold up into a defensive shell on Offense and a soft zone on D. Special teams was a disaster. Hell Holtz didn't decide on who our kicker was until 5 minutes before kickoff.
Coaches and players thought they could just roll there helmet on the field and they would win. When tech plays good disaplinned football they are a FBS school. Against NSU there were some Texas highschool teams that would have kicked there ass.
I am embarrassed for my university and hope they tell Holtz this is not acceptable but I guess it is after last season.

.... they werent prepared because they were preparing for auburn and overlooked the scrub team. Happens all the time. Your coach gambled that you would win that game on talent alone, they will play auburn well.

I highly doubt Tech will even make it to auburn. We all the stupid stuff tech does they will probably end up at Tuscaloosa thinking we are playing bama. I am getting used to it, other than ULL and NT tech hasn't played another good game in 2 years. I thought they figured it out but alas a lot of tech supporters were wrong.
The only other game this year i see us winning is USM, all the others will be ugly. Our team and coaches dont handle adversity well.

Before pass judgement, schedule a top tier SLC team. These schools suck but they poor what they have into football. Heck McNeese should have beat Nebraska a few weeks ago.
I remember back in 1985, USM played 4 teams from Louisiana. LaTech, ULL, NWState and Tulane. We went 3-1 against those teams that year. The one loss was to NWState.

NWST is the oldest rival of the Bulldogs. It doesn't matter the record or conference. This is their Super Bowl. Whoever is responsible for scheduling them should be fired. If we ever have a top 10 ten we should still never schedule McNeese State. Call it Gris Gris or Mojo, some teams just seem to always have the others number.

the guy who scheduled NW State has been gone from Tech for like 2 years and our current AD, McClelland, is a NW State grad

You will most likely see more matches between these two in the future if for nothing more than fan interest. A Tech poster said this game in Dogpatch was the fourth largest in the programs history. There was an excellent crowd on hand thus to guage its value just compare the pictures from that game with those from the upcoming UTEP game, if they post any.

Nope, it was the first home game and there were about 7,000 Time Out for Tech students & parents at the game which skewed the attendance upward. Those new Tech people were much more responsible for the overall number bump than NSU fans or interest in this opponent.

Whistle in the wind if you like. So what your are saying is the attendance would have been only 19,000 without the Time Out for Tech students and then on down to l5,000 without the fan interest and NW crowd and band. You may be right, 15,000 pretty much covers most crowds at Dogpatch.

Bingo, one knows he hit the bulls eye in the target when they can only respond with what they THINK are personal insults.
