If you are in a major metropolitan area, you need to be in the best spot to get into and out of, which is generally downtown. Both for access and availability, and for community and economic development.
How many students actually live on-campus at Miami and Pitt? If they are scattered all over the city, what difference does it make where the stadium is located?
The bulk of undergrads are on-campus at both schools.
At Pitt, 97% of incoming freshman stay on-campus, and over 42% of overall undergrads. A good bulk of the remainder are in rental units in residential areas immediately adjacent to campus to the immediate north or south of campus.
At Miami, 87% of freshman and 38% of all undergrads are on-campus.
For a comparison, the numbers for Virginia Tech are 98% for freshman and 37% of all undergraduates.
Good info. I still don't think it matters in the case of Pitt - the stadium's just not that far away. It might matter for Miami, but it's probably irrelevant - they are probably stuck with Sun Life no matter what.

Because everything you write is more nonsensical than the last thing you wrote. Your forecast of Temple pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into facilities improvements is just absurd and nobody is buying it for a second. It's just beneath debate. You are lucky to be in the AAC. You are never getting into the ACC. You have to realize that obvious truth.

I mean, we already have between our football practice facility, basketball practice facility, basketball arena upgrades, and purchase of a school to move our olympic sports...

Right, the indoor facility that just opened last year. Speaks volumes.
Look, it's great they're trying more than they were, but they're massively behind.

What? Again, we don't have access to the Eagles' facilities like Pitt does. It didn't just open last year; we moved our rec sports into our new multipurpose building and football used that for indoor practice/drills. We're probably going to build one attached/next to the stadium anyway. We didn't put much into the indoor facility for a reason (it's getting knocked down).
I just love a Pitt fan saying we're massively behind when your facilities are shared with the Steelers. You dont have your own facilities.

Pitt doesn't have access to the Eagles facilities. However, the Steelers share our practice facility built by our medical center.
The above practice facility we moved into from our on-campus full-sized indoor facility that we opened 24 years ago and that is now used primarily by olympic sports.
You threw turf into your old rec pavilion last year in order to call it an indoor football facility. You are massively behind, not that facilities guarantee success.
Try again.

RE: Pitt and Miami need own stadiums
I'm just a proud dad of this thread! LOL. I admit I left it and you all for awhile but its still alive!. I'm not sure it needs to be right next to campus either, only a certain amount of students go...especially like you all said in metro university settings.
While I agree Pitt has a nice set up with the Steelers in all regards, it just seems like it would be nice to go ahead and have its own stadium. But still share the practice facility amenities.
Miami, with doing the renovation to Sun Life, which I think looks really cool btw, could also use its own stadium, but that is just a guy from Louisville saying that based on one trip to the Orange Bowl and how far away it seemed from "Miami". Now if the demographics up there have a heavy amount of $upport for the Canes then maybe everything is good to go. Anyways, was just my opinion, and I thought worth the discussion on here to get the 2 teams fans thoughts/opinions on the matter.
Now back to pestering Clemsoning fans!

Yes, that is what happens when one has an idea about what one is talking about.

You say we're so behind when we both don't have an on campus stadium, we're the ones working on it, we just renovated our practice facility, and we're the ones who would be building a new indoor practice facility.
Speak for yourself, sPitt.

...now you've gone and hurt my feelings.
Despite your particular delusion about Temple's place in the world, I do still cheer for the Owls and advocate for them. Building an on-campus stadium, if that is more than anything but a negotiating ploy for the Eagles, is likely going to be a big mistake for the university. Ten years from now, I hope you prove me wrong by showing all the great things it brought and how it wasn't a bumbling waste of resources and space for a financially-strained, landlocked urban G5 school still averaging under 25K a game.
