Middle Tennessee changing the game
http://www.jrn.com/newschannel5/news/new...79681.html

This is interesting because like every other TBR school, they have preferred walkons who are in on Hope dollars. The additional cash is available to ALL students, so it's not an NCAA violation to give that extra 500 to athletes.
It's also a great way to combat the Tennessee Promise.

Theyve been having enrollment issues, theyve hit a plateau and kind of downslid a bit. This should help them out.

MTSU is down about 3500 students over the last 4 years, losing around a thousand this year alone. According to their fact book, their Grad School enrollment has really taken a hit.

Probably by the increase in state money that should come from the increase in graduation rate and retention, which is as important as head count now. They are increasing the number of students compared to what they would otherwise have (increased money) and bribing them to stay on pace to graduate in 4 years (increased money). This is exactly the type of thing that ETSU needs to do, except for the decrease in admission standards that MTSU is also doing in combination with this. I would increase my donations to ETSU if they showed some innovation such as this accompanied by an increase in admission standards.

Increasing admissions standards would require TBR approval. Not going to happen when it is a change that is diametrically opposite to the Governor's Drive for 55 program. Governor Haslam is regent of TBRs board .
