RE: G5 Non Conference Results 2014 (Week 3)
Independents are doing well, CUSA has not lost to a G5 opponent but everybody else is pretty much playing like crap.
Take out the FCS games and these are each conference's records

CUSA 11-16
MWC 5-15
MAC 5-20
AAC 3-16
SBC 2-15

Indies are 7-2 with no games vs FCS teams.

Several of those FCS games have been extremely close wins also

... nor beat a P5 opponent. Sort the records by different subsets and you get radically different rankings.

vs P5 AAC is 2-9 and CUSA is 0-16. ECU's win over VTech was impressive but Temple beating a Vandy team that nearly lost to UMass is not impressive, regardless of conference affiliation.

Compare that to their records vs G5 teams- AAC is 1-7 and CUSA is 11-0, including 4-0 vs AAC. That's a huge difference. And CUSA isn't squeaking out wins either, they are dominating. Check out the margin of victory for their G5 wins-

+38 UAB over Troy
+37 UNT over SMU
+30 Marshall over Ohio
+29 FAU over Tulsa
+28 WKU over BGSU
+28 La tech over LA-La
+20 UTSA over Houston
+18 UTEP over NMSU
+15 Marshall over Miami
+14 ODU over EMU
+7 UTEP over New Mexico

That's an average margin of victory of +24pts for CUSA teams over G5 opponents. Conversely, AAC is 1-7 vs G5 teams with UC over Toledo 58-34 as their only win. In 7 losses vs G5 teams the AAC lost by an average margin of 20.4pts.

-37 SMU vs UNT
-29 Tulsa vs FAU
-25 UConn vs BYU
-20 Houston vs UTSA
-17 UConn vs Boise St
-8 Houston vs BYU
-7 Temple vs Navy

Either way you sort it CUSA has been more impressive than AAC after 3 weeks.

IMO. UC and ECU are better than maybe every MAC, Sunbelt, and CUSA team. Boise the exception in the Mountain West.

You do know that Marshall played ECU in the last regular season game last year and beat them 59-28, right? Both teams have essentially everyone back on offense, but ECU lost 7 defensive starters while Marshall only lost 3.
