Why would they even do this? Were they instructed for people with a certain kind of ticket to walk around or something? I'm still just baffled at why anyone wouldn't be counted in actual attendance. Looks like everyone who enters would be counted and then let UAB decide later whether to announce actual attendance or paid attendance.

Legion Field staff is bad about doing this. I've seen it done not only at UAB games bit the Bowl game and the Classic also.

Why would they do this? Bryant Jr give them the instructions?
Because the company that provides the glorious food pays a fee to the city based on turnstile count. Less people counted means more profit
I just saw your response. That is ridiculous.

Largest crowd I've personally seen since 2007 - except maybe the 2010 opener.

New experience for UAB marketing. Big crowd for Troy opener - we won. Bigger crowd for second home game with AL A&M - we won again. Now we get a chance to see if we can market the FIU game and have an even larger crowd. In two weeks we will know.

Still bothered by one word.
Consistently, when our attendance is mentioned, there seems to be an emphasis on the word "announced," as if it is not an accurate count, not the actual attendance. Look at any other game reports on other school's games from the News--be it Auburn or Alabama, or Samford, Jax State, Troy--and see if you see that word used. There is an assumed suspicion of our attendance.

Maybe we should ask them to reveal the "not announced" attendance as well.

Yes, actually I do.
I am not questioning the accuracy of the number, but the implied distrust from the News of any attendance figure we would report.

That distrust is based upon a history of over-inflated numbers reported by athletics, in which, in previous years, tickets sold, or even tickets distributed were reported as actual attendance, when in fact it wasn't.

Case in point, we did not have 52,000 attend home games last year. We would be lucky to have had 40,000 actual.
