"Longmire", A&E's second rated overall and top non-reality series, was cancelled because the viewers were too old. Seems the average of "Longmire" viewers was 60 (I pulled up that average quite a bit).

Apparently quality is only appreciated by the seasoned.

There is a chance another network or a streaming service, will pick it up. This past year, Netflix picked up the equally high quality "The Killing" when it was dropped by AMC.

I hate to hear that and hope someone else does pick it up. One of my favorite series the past few years. One of the few dramas that both me and my wife enjoyed.

And I helped balance out your raising of the average.

Bad business sense by A&E.

14-15 years ago A&E had a big success w/ Biography. Then they spun that into its own channel. What a chance to have a steady, low level income. You don't need to make a ton of new biography shows, just replay the old ones! Treat it like JackFM or clear channel on TV. Just program that day's shows to match interesting dates and current events.

As for A&E itself, it started as the Masterpiece Theatre of CaTV. Ok, that didn't work so well, but they don't have to abandon their traditional viewing demographic.

My biggest problem is that they aren't entertaining or funny.

I've seen a few episodes but I havent' watched it enough to decide it's entertainment factor. I couldn't get into it. Lots of girls have the hots for the dudes on there though and that might be a big part of their fan base.

A bunch of us on Facebook ripped into A&E for cancelling out the series.

Rumour has it the producers are already in discussions with another network (not Netflix/Amazon/etc.) to pick up the series and promising no changes to the premise and the show, but they wouldn't say who with for obvious reasons.

And LSU.. if you think it's the fact that the girls like the Branche character, you DON'T Know the show.

Longmire had some of the best _QUALITY_ writing you can imagine... (and that's because they actually went out and did their research on some of the issues before the producers picked up the contract with the book author, such as Indian reservations/law enforcement issues, native american history and legends, and so on.)

But A&E wants to stick to their crap Big Smo' , Shipping Wars, First 48, etc.
