Very good point... puts a lot of it to rest. I can see how a bad false-start call can Sting when one's team had a chance to pull a comeback... but overall, those numbers you posted speak for themselves.

NIU is going to have to do the opposite to beat Arkansas.

The false start just stands out to me because 1- it was such an easy call that the ref absolutely got wrong, and 2- it was at a crucial moment in the game.

Now go beat Arkansas for me!

I do remember the missed PI call, I also agree on the false start. I thought it was fair enough either way.

Also...prior to the safety, on the punt that was downed at the 1/2 yard line...wasn't the guy touching it laying in the endzone?

Agreed...this is a nitpick thread.. for a game NIU could have won by 30... or martians could have landed at halftime and play was suspended...or Mayweather could have decided to have the fight on the field after the game..it's a lame series of commentary..

NIU won, UNLV is not that bad.. move on Rebel Red..best to you

No, the punt was a good call. UNLV guy touched the ball and then he was laying on the endline, but the ball was rolling off to his side. He wasn't touching it.

And come on, don't change the subject or think that "enough [is] said" by just showing that you were penalized 8 times for 85 yards... Are you gonna deny the personal foul when your guy ripped our RB's helmet off after the play? Or did you not like the throat slash personal foul? Yes, they called penalties on you, but in this crucial moment, they blew an obvious call in your favor and it might have changed the landscape of the game.

I haven't been able to see a replay, but speaking of momentum changers, that roughing the punter call sure looked like a flop when I saw it live. Thoughts on that RebelRed since you said you've rewatched the game?

When you lose (you guys wouldn't know this very well cuz you don't lose often), you look for something to cling to that gives you some sort of inner satisfaction that your team isn't as bad as the scoreboard says. For me, that thing I'll cling to was an AWFUL call that ended our drive. A call that anyone who knows anything about football knows that it was a blown call. It helps me cope. I appreciate those here who have recognized that it was a terrible call, and that validates me at some small level.

And I don't say it every time, but trust me, you guys were the better team for a greater part of the game. You deserved to win. We should have made more plays and made them earlier. Good road win for you guys (and the MAC officials you brought with you ;-) )

A punter/kicker is always going to embellish the call slightly (or more than slightly), and I agree that that was a momentum shift BIG TIME. But he did run into our punter with force, so I think it was the right call.

Fans of losing teams may try to soften the blow of losses by looking at penalties or throwing out ifs and buts, but they usually don't do it on the other team's fan message board. You're not going to find much or any sympathy here. There were missed calls both ways...it happens in 99% of football games. Time to let it go. Maybe UNLV will bring MWC refs next year.

Good point, and hopefully we will get to bring our cream of the crop to next year's game. :-) And you'll have to forgive me for bringing it here, this town's (Vegas) support is so low for Rebel football ("when is it basketball season?"), that our message board gets 5-10 posts A DAY (if that).

You guys have been cool to chat with, and good sports, both here, and the fans I met at the game. And hey, it helped my Monday pass by a little faster.

Go Huskies!

Absolutely. I'm looking forward to the game next year. Hopefully both teams have success the rest of the year. It would be nice to get a basketball series set up now that NIU seems to be crawling out of a 10 year gutter.

You are a good guy, rebelred. I understand everything you've said, and you said it well. I totally understand your frustrations with the refs. We go through that ourselves many times.

Come back and visit us often.

If moral victories counted in the win column, we'd be in the national championship game every year. Moral victory warriors.

When downing punts, it's all about the ball. Players can stand in the end zone and down punts as long as the ball doesn't cross the line.

To the Rebel fan, coming onto our board and complaining about the refs is trollesqe. You seem like a good guy though. Good luck with the rest of your season. I'll be cheering for ya.

The refs were bad both ways. The only reason UNLV got back into the game was the bogus flop by the punter.

I didn't see that play. Did we hit him at all? Punters are taught to fall if anyone comes near them. They have been doing that since the roughing the penalty rule was introduced.

It was at most a running into the kicker.
