I suspect this is all part of Withers wanting to big time the program. Having gotten to know the guy a little bit though, it is sad. You will not find d a bigger JMU diehard, fan, and player supporter than Schick.

Yes, loved listening on the walkman those years too. If you recall, for many years, Jim Britt was play by play with Schikman as the analyst. That was a much better broadcast to me as Britt was very good. I never heard why Britt stopped doing play by play. I still hear him on WSVA.

Loved Schikman's call of the blocked FG last Saturday though. Went crazy.

Don't forget, we had several (5?) years w/ Mike Gastineau as the voice of the Dukes. Would have been around 87-91 or thereabouts. Can't remember if he teamed w/ Britt or Schik.

This is sad. I am very disappointed I hope it was somewhat his choice, Mike is a great man and great Duke. The way it looks we keep making piss poor decision after piss poor decision I am really lost here....... What next.... Charge students for games?

Yep. Didn't have breakfast with the guy, but he kept me up in more than a couple games when, yes actual studying, had to take precedent. That and the many many away games and of course the gems, like no flags, no flags! as earl was breaking into my car for me since I'd locked the keys in there.

Best of luck, Schik! You are a true JMU icon. Many good years, but I'll miss tricky dribble forever.

Schikman is a class act and great guy. I wish him well.

Matt Jones reported that, in fact, this was all WSVA's and Verstanding Broadcasting's decision. They did ask JMU if they had any objections to replacing him, but Bourne declined to say what that response was.

People are going to read too much into that because of course they will.

I wonder if when Mrs. Bourne asks Jeffrey what he wants for dinner he declines to comment. Or, when they're sitting around as a family talking about where to go for vacation, he says that we're in a good position should we decide to take a vacation but I decline comment as that may be mistaken as an original thought which I have none of.
