Rick Mello
Was he a good, bad, or middle of road AD. I know he still owns a house in Little Rock and plans to retire in the area. Would he be a type to increase promotions or do the same as cp. I know he is currently the Deputy AD @ Rice, as I met him there last year when we went for VB Tournament.

RE: Rick Mello
Mello seemed like a nice guy, but didn't have much of a personality. Don't know how good or bad he was. Didn't see much of anything like new facilities or renovated facilities from him. Peterson has the personality and the ability to bull**** a bull moose, but in my opinion he didn't channel it the right way. Consequently he produced in the way of better facilities. Didn't seem like he clicked with the average fans though.

I think Rick was a genuinely nice guy. Down to earth, no "airs" about him. I recall he wasn't big on promotions, give-aways, etc. believing it would "cheapen" the product. He believed on being honest about "actual" attendance which was very painful at the time, considering the numbers listed by previous AD's. Can't see us rehiring a previous AD. He would honest, willing to listen, and a hardworker. Not sure if that would be enough for our program, or certainly not fans who believe a new AD could bring a ton of new fans and excitement to our program. I do recall he really loved Little Rock.

Don't know any fans who expect an AD to be responsible for bringing in the fans. The coach and the type of ball his team plays brings in the fans. An AD can certainly help things some by promoting the program well. Apparently the only folks the present AD communicates with are the business community who buy the tickets, but don't ever use them. As long as the the athletic department gets the money, I don't think our folks give a damn whether they use them or not. They need to hobnob some with us peons. At least we come to the games.
