Not everyone wants to remain ignorant the way you like to.

How am I ignorant?

everyone knows where this convo is going to go, and right on cue the post right after mine went there...

Are you talking about "where I went?

Im married into a family of immigrants and we just went through getting a dog and explaining it to them. Did I say anything bad about immigrants? If anything I derided Americans for treating their animals like kids.

My inlaws did not get us having a dog until they spent a week in our house to see the interaction. Now they want us to possibly help them find a dog.

At the same time we got cats but those things are not coming into my house. They have a nice setup in our garage, they will get food water and shelter as long as they keep killing rodents.

In many *many* parts of the world dogs and cats are tools to be used, not members of the family. If you have a dog it's to herd, protect, or serve another function. You don't get doggie daycare, you don't spend thousands to keep fido alive when he gets cancer, and you don't keep them in your house.

Thank you. 04-cheers That makes sense. I knew why some African Americans are afraid of dogs but I think about that regarding other parts of the world.

So how do you know that the Indian or the Pakistani guy was...well first Indian or Pakistani...and second, wasn't an American born here which would make that conclusion worthless?

I can tall by the dots on the wife and daughters foreheads for the Indians. The Pakistanis work at the gas station up the street, and yes I know for a fact they're Pakistani b/c of the flag hanging on their rear view mirror. As far as being born "here" or not it's really a moot point but they certainly weren't speaking English with their family. Point being it's a trend I've noticed with folks coming in and out of this hotel. Almost all of them except the whites seem either scared or at the least very timid / cautious around my dog and he's not exactly intimidating.

1 - If he was Pakistani he is *probably a muslim* and they hate dogs for religious reasons

2 - Even if you're born here you get hints of your culture from your parents and community. My Wife immigrated when she was three, and her brother was born here but they did not have good "pet" experiences because of their parents.

3 - I was of course speaking in generalizations because I don't know the guy tom... But of course you have to take issue with what I said which was obviously not about all minorities/immigrants.

I didn't say it was or you were. I was merely trying to ascertain that he wasn't just assuming something based on skin color, which many on here do. Clearly he didn't.

RE: Why are some minorities
I've seen a black guy run across a parking lot, screaming at the top of his lungs, because an old man was walking his LEASHED poodles in the grass. The black guy was so shaken up that we had to let him have the rest of the day off.

Yes, two freaking poodles. The small kind. Who knows, maybe it reverted back to him being a slave 200 years ago.

*chuckles again*

LOL...told a buddy of mine today (who happens to be black) about john's post about civil rights/slavery and people today being scared of dogs. I'm not sure but I think he's still laughing. Between chuckles, he did say, well there might be some old folks alive today who had a bad experience back in the day with dogs during 50's and 60's but that doesn't affect my generation. He also asked if john was a white guy. Told him I assumed so. He said, figures.

Lol, more proof that white liberals are idiots. They think they know all about civil rights and slavery, and link it to more things than black civil rights activists... It's ridiculous.

One of my roommates at Newberry had a black merle Catahoula and a blockhead Lab and we got the same reaction when we walked them. The lab was bigger than the Cat, but the Cat scared people more because of it's "devil eyes".

I don't know where you're seeing this, but I've never met a grown black person afraid of dogs. Now, they were maybe wary of a certain dog, but not dogs in general. But I've lived in some sort of rural area my entire life, where ever black person had hunting dogs. If you go to the 'hood, though I admit little experience there, you can't go 200 feet without seeing a black person with a pitbull.

Now, my wife's parents grew up in India and any dog you see there is going to be wild.

Good thing they're not from Viet Nam then the dog would have been afraid of them.

Actually ,you want to know who's afraid of dogs? People who raise dogs to be vicious, whether to raise them to fight, or just to be vicious for guard dog purposes..

They're actually terrified of other dogs. Doesnt matter the breed. They assume that if they raised doges to be vicious, then everyone else does the same.

And that goes for blacks, whites, far eastern, middle eastern, ink and purple polka dots..
