Anybody visited the Air Force museum in Dayton?
I stopped by the Wright-Patterson AFB a couple years ago to check out the Air Force museum there - it was pretty neat. They have EVERYTHING there. WWI (some of my favorites, though they're replicas not originals), WWII, Korea, Vietnam and all the modern planes as well. They have the B-29 that dropped the bomb on Nagasaki. They have the B-1, B-2, F-117, F-22, etc. They have a display case with hundreds of miniature replicas of planes. They also have lots of other exhibits with various gear. I spent hours and didn't see it all.
Very cool if you're into that stuff.

Haven’t been there since 1970. It was an impressive place even back then.
A couple of months ago I went to the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola
and watched the Blue Angels Practice. Man, I could spend days in those museums.
Two years ago I did the U-505 tour at the Museum of Science and Industry
in Chicago, and last year the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville.
The National World War II Museum in New Orleans is my next trip.

Visited there many times in the 70's while growing up in Ohio. Fond memories of the museum and would love to visit there again someday.

Yep, that was back when they could break the Sound barrier during the air shows.

Since this is a sports board and this is College World Series time, I'll go a bit OT and say that one place I really enjoyed is the SAC museum between Omaha and Lincoln. At least when I went, you walk in and you're about 5 feet from the nose cone of a SR-71 Blackbird hanging in the air. That's a fairly breathtaking moment.

I've been there several times. When the company I worked for in Oak Ridge took over management of the Foreign Science Library at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, I took advantage of the opportunity to visit.

the city of memphis gave the bomber to the museum once a local group was unable to find the funds to fully restore and house the plane here. a group of memphis found the belle in a scrap yard in oklahoma just before it was to be turned into razor blades and flew it to memphis where is sat in static unprotected display near liberty bowl stadium for decades. a local group restored the plane and moved it to a covered display area on mud island, but the exposure to moisture was taking its toil and its where it really belongs now.
memphis belle outside the national guard armory (now the memphis childrens museum) at the fairgrounds
memphis belle on mud island
memphis belle as is now

Bump. They are adding a 4th building to the museum to house all of the presidents planes. Should be done next year.
