I made the comment to someone about how far he had fallen after watching a couple episodes of that show and doing snickers commercials. You have to wonder what kind of role that failure played in setting this depression off.
As far as Blunderbuss earlier comments, anytime a personality is around as long as he was at the level he was and people spend hours and hours of their life growing up with and watching his work and even got to know the real life persona in interviews and such I get the sense of loss here.
Especially the emotional roller coaster of emotions he brought you on to be involved with the both dramatic movies like Good Will Hunting to his comedic stuff. That's unusual people can do both equally well. He certainly impacted the world far more than your average person and will continue to impact it with his art for many years.

It's a shame. He was definitely one of my favorite actors. My favorite roles were him in Dead Poets Society, and Good Morning Vietnam.

RE: Robin Williams found dead.
I was never a fan of Robin Williams, at all, but RIP.
His death, while sad, is no more sad than the death of hundreds of others that occurred yesterday, including the suicides of many other people (including active military, veterans, the homeless and others).
It is a sad thing about his suicide but sometimes I wonder why we "mourn" dead celebrities more than other people.

He wasn't just a vain socialite. In fact he didn't search for the spotlight unless it was to perform. The guy made millions upon millions of people laugh and cry. He was one person we were extremely lucky to have around to entertain us. In that way, he was one of the most significant losses in my lifetime.

I highlighted the answer to your question Terry.

Simple. Because we had a connection to him. Some of us grew up on this movies and other recognized that he inspired an entire generation of comedy. Nobody is saying his death is or should be ever more sad than anyone else's but he is mourned because he was known. I can't mourn someone I never knew.

I despise this sort of simplistic and egoic opinions. Simply put, if you add up all the hours human beings have spent watching Robin Williams on TV or in a theater, you would may eclipse a billion hours.
When you start adding up all his work and how diverse he was, it's astonishing. Simply crushing that man so beloved could be so unhappy, depression is an absolute *****.

Additionally, I thought he was excellent in Awakenings, Good Will Hunting and Good Morning Vietnam.
