The fact is that the undergrad populations at both schools are almost identical. ECU has a larger grad school. While this "rounding" seems small, you were using it to make an argument that is not factually correct.

I visited ECU with my son when we were checking out colleges. I also spent a week there in banking school 25 years ago. I have always felt ECU and JMU were very similar schools. The support ECU gets for football would be mirrored at JMU if our administrations had be more proactive about moving up to FBS two decades ago. There is absolutely no reason for a 21k student university located in the south to not be FBS. IMO, JMU has put too much emphasis over the years on its relationship with W&M and UR both small colleges.

So ECUs website is not factually correct when they state they have more than 27k. My mistake for rounding lol .

The number WITH ALL STUDENTS (which again, adding in grad students really skews your numbers since those students aligh with their undergrad like I previously stated) is

JMU - 21,727
ECU - 27,386

A difference of 5,659 in fvaor of ECU

Without grad students the difference is 1,662 in favor of ECU

Regardless of how you try to skew the numbers it doesn't account for ECU having double the amount of people in their stadium as JMU does on game days with 5 other FBS schools to compete with including 4 of them being ACC schools.

ANYWAYS, MY POINT IS.........

Some schools like ECU (and ODU) don't accept "can't"

At JMU we seem to live by it...

"We can't get an FBS invite"
"We can't take care of all our sports"
"We can't afford the move"
"We can't find a conference with academic peers"
"We can't find a conference with geographic peers"
"We can't find a conference with [insert excuse]"

My assumption would be that ECU builds it's popularity from football while UNC and Duke builds theirs from basketball. ECU has had some talented players come from there. A good friend of mine graduated from there and still raves about ECU football. I really wish the JMU fan base was consistent whether in FBS or not.

The "grad students support their undergrad more" argument is a one way street unfortunately. I know a few JMU undergrad alums who went to a bcs school for grad and I can tell from their Facebook which school they follow more intensely.
Likewise I know JMU grad alums who went to a bcs for undergrad. You can forget about them even noticing JMU athletics.
At the end of the day, if they went to two schools and one is bcs, they almost always root for the bcs school first and foremost.

JMU is the person that bought the shiny new G-Wagon but can't afford the gas. So they sit in front of it in their driveway cleaning it daily and it always stays looking good because it never sees the road it was intended to drive on.

It really has to be every thread? 95% coverage isn't good enough?

hahah Navy..zing

I hate to pick on the admin today (they earn it..) but that sign is not designed correctly....

shouldn't "National champions" be centered under "JMU"?

then, from top left moving down...you start listing NC years... there would be room for 8

where are they placing the next one? above 2016? Cool...counter-clockwise from 4:00 .... seriously people - this was the same team that designed the new JMUSports.com I bet

I disagree. The way it's designed looks much cleaner the way it is, opposed to two years in the top left as you suggested. If we're fortunate enough to win another one, I'm sure we will all gladly fund a new bottom half of that signage.

Maybe we can get the local TV station to do an interview for the sports portion of the news with this in the background. Naw, that would take a little marketing or self promotion, never happen, not a strong quality of JMU.

Watched 'em doing the sign, the whole bottom part with NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP 2004 2016 is separate from the JMU. it will be a easy fix to ad another year. The rebranding of the JMU is what necessitated the upgrade. They are going to redo the bottom on the inside too to reflect our National Championships too. So it will be visible if we get TV coverage this year.
