ESPN Insider - AAC still a power conference
http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-...fresh=true

Losing Louisville and Rugers (lol) and replacing with ECU, Tulane, and Tulsa brought the league down. Aresco considers it a power conference - what do you expect him to say. Gasaway agreed but said AAC and Big East are the weakest ones.

Of the 11 teams next year, they have won 69 NCAA tournament games (UCONN has won 32 of those) since 2000. This is less than the Big East (77) and Pac-12 (96). All the major conferences have won over 100.

Even with losing Emmanuel Mudlay, SMU should be able to maintain. UConn losing players, but has good ones coming back. Cinci lost 3 key players and may see a dip in performance.

Memphis in rebuilding mode. Pastner has been spending time with Bo Ryan. Expects Memphis to finish behind SMU and UConn.

Note - for those interested, here's the question that leads the article >>>
In the wake of Connecticut's national championship on the one hand but the Cardinals' departure on the other, is "power conference" a fair characterization of the American in terms of hoops?

UConn, Cincy and Memphis programs in the conference are just as good as Kentucky and FL and the rest of the SEC in basketball.

Football, we can't compete with the P5 under their current plan.

If they decide only to play each other, it's going to hurt but there are plenty of good teams out there to play, it will just mean that AAC schools will stop playing ASU, Austin Peay and pick up games with Boise, San Diego State, BYU and conference members who are in the same boat as we are, just a touch below the P5.

Really?

What other programs in the AAC?

Tulane? Tulsa? ECU? USF? UCF? Temple? Houston? SMU?

Those schools have a combined four tourney appearances in the last, what, 10 + years?

Does that Bo Ryan reference literally mean that Pastner has been visiting with Bo Ryan? I assume they have been talking about coaching philosophy and actual coaching?

Performance in the past does not indicate or guarantee the same in future :-)
