Which Teams Could Afford to Be in a College Football Super Division?
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/21444...r-division

Article takes a really simplistic approach based on reported numbers which are never truly correct. Much more factors into it - many beyond the financial. But...

I don't imagine UAB would even come close...

This article took the reported "football only" numbers. Many FBS schools don't include cost of scholarships in this number with the justification that the full cost across all sports is shouldered by the athletic dept as a whole and isn't broken down per sport. It doesn't make sense - how much in the NCAA does? - but schools aren't required to break costs down per sport the same way, so you never know which method a school used unless you dig deeper...which most "journalists" (we are talking about Bleacher Report) don't bother to do, of course. Only about 2 dozen schools turn a profit in football...and Troy is not one of them.

+2 - football only is very misleading - you should use overall budget deficit and even that can be misleading with no consistent methodology for calculation (i.e., is facilities costs or utilities included)
