MSNBC’s Ratings Tank In July, Lowest Numbers In Nearly A Decade…
[Image: oir4nt.jpg]

A real feel good story...

Quote:With a growing crisis on the southern border, an airline shoot down, civil war in eastern Ukraine and a fierce fight between the Israeli government and Hamas in Gaza, July was one intense month for news. And that was bad news for MSNBC.

The ultra-liberal cable news network touts itself as “The Place For Politics.” But when actual news breaks, the American public breaks away from MSNBC, with the channel’s daytime and primetime lineup both suffering some of its worst numbers in eight years.

According to Nielsen Media Research, MSNBC’s total day viewership was down 35 percent in the key 25-54 demographic from last year, the lowest it’s been since May 2006. Every single one of the major daytime shows — from “The Daily Rundown” at 9 a.m. through to “Andrea Mitchell Reports” at noon and “Politics Nation” with Al Sharpton at 6 p.m. — is down 40 percent or more in the target demographic.

Most of those time slots haven’t seen numbers that low since 2004, during the first term of the Bush administration. Amazingly, even HLN — a network so obscure that no one really know what its acronym even stands for — beat out MSNBC in total day numbers for the 25-54 age group.

For a long time, many of us on this board have been saying MSNBC's leadership just doesn't get it. They hired a guy who cheats on his wife, a racist, and left wing extremists. You want to lean left, that's fine, but MSNBC went overboard. Way overboard. I'd be curious to see what advertisers pay for commercials and what products they are.

There actually is a viable market, IMHO, for a supplier of political/media content to an American audience that is to the left of the MSM. That audience is probably about 10-15% as large as the audience that is to the right of the MSM, but still it does exist and some sort of cable-news channel could make a success of it, if they handled it the right way. But MSNBC just can't seem to figure out how to do that.

Quote:And in the evening, Rachel Maddow was only marginally improved from her lowest month ever in June, averaging 181,000 viewers in the key demo. (FNC's Megyn Kelly, by contrast, enjoyed her second-highest-rated month since launch with an especially strong 386,000 adults 25-54.)

So basically no one watches cable news anymore that isn't in AARP is the point?

Fox has a good product. They are not comparable.

What littledixie said. FOX has been doing the cable-news thing for 18 years and has succeeded virtually from the minute they went on the air. As long as the MSM continues to lean left, there is really no reason to believe that FOX's success won't continue.

Nah, they just have a viewer base that has nothing else to do with their time and nothing else to watch other than Antique's Roadshow imho....crusty old people watch Faux, deadbeats on unemployment watch MTV and other sh.it.

I will admit their non-opinionated daily NEWS coverage is much better than MSNBC's.

Yet, they continue to stomp all the other networks and are now giving prime time a run for their money. According to Nielsen they only saw 5% drop in younger viewer in 2013 and that was before a lineup change. Doing a little research, the only sources talking about Fox News in some kind of aging demographic vortex are pander to far left zealots.

Either we have a crap ton of 65+ or it's just more liberal spin.

I'm betting on the latter.
