RE: What does it take to get a P5 team to play at your place?
Will say that no matter what you might think of him, Wood Selig, AD of ODU, and formerly with WKU,
has ODU refusing to do any 2-1 deals. They play NC State at Raleigh this year with return trip next year.
Have signed many home and homes with Virginia Tech evidently. In fact too many, VPI has evidently
cancelled some because of the number or having other opportunities.

The best we did was a team in a former power conference (Temple). Wazzu's AD said they're willing to play at Idaho if we expand to ~25k seats.

I thought I read somewhere a while back y'all were moving ahead with plans to expand the kibbie dome?

I think the BIGGEST factor is need. Also, I think it was easier for us to get Baylor, Minnesota, and Wake Forest because their stadiums don't see too much more than ours, so they aren't missing out on too big a difference in ticket sales.

RE: What does it take to get a P5 team to play at your place?
So far.
1. connections, A.D. with good connections
2. stadium size, >30K would be a good start
3. location, out of area schools trying to make themselves known to recruits.
4. desperation with scheduling. being lucky enough to have an open date that matches a P5 school needing to fill out their schedule.
5. ???
GS: current capacity is 25K. Teams usually fly into Savannah and take a 1hr bus ride down I-16 to the boro. Our A.D. has a lot of MAC connections (which he is using to get FBS home and home games). Don't know if he is networking with P5 schools, but likely working towards a deal. Any P5 would do. I'd like to see an ACC or SEC, but a it might be easier to get a Big or Pac school to come so they can get into the recruiting area.
I think it would be in GS's favor to schedule home and home's with P5 schools when we get over 30K seats in Paulson. For now we need the money and will fill in the home schedules with other G5 opponents.

If we continue winning more than losing, I expect to reach that 30,000 mark within 5 years. I don't think it is that crazy to think we could host low level P5 teams and more marquee G5 teams.
If we beat GT this year, I do seriously doubt they would ever come to Our House to play. We do owe Oregon State and Colorado State a beatdown, though.

If the Tech game is remotely close, you may never get them again.

That's a big part of it. We've been able to schedule pretty far out in advance like the 4 year Vandy deal 2015-2018 being announced a couple of years ago and the Duke two year deal 2019-2020 ww just announced, but I'm pretty sure our Miss State home and home, Minnesota home and home and Georgia Tech 2-1 were all announced the spring before the first game was to be played.
I think the big thing is getting one team to agree to a game. Once you can get say an SEC school to agree, its far easier to get another P5 school to sign on. In our case, after the Missouri agreement, Miami was found more agreeable to a home and home, and Iowa State soon followed. Since that game was scheduled, we've gotten multiple calls from other P5 schools about home and home deals.
Agreed, getting the ball rolling is key. We didn't host a single AQ/P5 until 2006 when we hosted Louisville in Nashville. With what we have scheduled currently over a fifteen year period(2006-2020) we will host a P5 team 9 out 15 years, that obviously doesn't count BYU this year which is a big game despite not being P5 and between now and 2020 there are three years we aren't scheduled to host a P5 and we still have OOC holes in all three of those, I'd be surprised if we don't add one or even two more.
2006-Louisville(in Nashville)
2007-Virginia
2008-Maryland
2009-Miss State
2010-Minnesota
2011-Georgia Tech
2014- BYU
2015-Vandy(1 OOC slot remains, likely FCS unless we can host first in 1-1)
2016-no P5(1 OOC slot remains, likely FCS unless we can host first in 1-1)
2017-Vandy(1 OOC slot remains, already have 6 home games, could return a 1-1)
2018-no P5(2 OOC slots remain, need both to be home games)
2019-Duke(3 OOC slots remain)
2020-no P5(3 OOC slots remain)

Yeah, we're working out a deal with BYU right now ourselves. Schedule is full until 2017, when we've got an opening to start a home and home with someone on the road.
Vandy is a nice little get for you guys, your games with them always used to be fun to watch.

Hopefully the Vandy series results in two sell outs for both sides and four exciting competitive games. I think we need to have a home and home with them at least once a decade, if we could get this 2-2 even every 10-12 years I'd be thrilled.

We beat them three times at their place in the early to mid 2000's. Most MT fans never thought they'd agree to come to Murfreesboro at all let alone twice in a series that kicks off in the Boro.
They've bought us out twice before after past victories, most expect it to happen again, I think all four get played.

I like it. Looks like the game day atmosphere will be awesome. Even the upper levels get protection from the elements.

For GaSou it is probably going to take another stadium expansion and be 2 for 1 our first go around. I dont think the Alabama, UT types are going to be very common for any G5's. It is just a dumb financial decision for any P5 with high attendance to agree for a straight home and home with most G5's.

We need to finish building the new science building first. I haven't seen any sign of progress on the expansion, just every once in a while concept art is released. That 25k range is theoretically possible if we dig down to add a few rows, add a horseshoe and a second level, which isn't going to happen for a while.
IMO (and at least in Idaho's situation) I have no desire to play BCS teams at home, I want to see us win. Beating the likes of Western Michigan does more for your program than losing to Notre Dame or Alabama at home. If you get to the level when you're ready to take on BCS teams then it's better than being on the road, but not many MM programs are at that level. Even then you could probably argue that running the table on a weak schedule might be a better way to slip into the playoff picture than risk a loss against a mediocre BCS team.
