I'm not a fan of the players "holding" their pants either. They should definitely wear them. 04-cheers

I guess you'd like some fruit and whip cream as well.

Saw this today for Univ of Washington. Go to #3. These would look great in Harrisonburg.

Def nice. Hopeful that we get our own combination some day instead of a standard or re-tread

I said it before, and I'll say it again: real programs with players who want to play football and build tradition rather than be pretty little fashion models don't constantly change uniforms. This insanity started with those stupid jackasses in Oregon and it must, finally, end.

Yeah. We should go back to leather helmets... Where's the tradition!

I'm with you.

From the NFL.com link, the new Washington uniforms don't do anything for me. Nike's ridiculously oversized collar looks terrible. The triangles around the armpit are pointless and strange. In my opinion, PSU and BYU look the best. Simple. Classic.

It's not going to end. It's just starting. With Under Armor in the mix, it's going to make all of the other manufacturers step up their game, meaning more creative/new options. When manufacturers pick up a new contract, they need to do something to differentiate from the prior regime. Notre Dame is as historic as any school, and I like their new uniforms. Everything new doesn't need to look like Maryland....

It's not going to end. These recruits want cool stuff and it makes a difference in the recruiting process for a number of schools, JMU included. We are not in the running for the player that can play at Alabama, Penn State or Southern Cal. If our peers are doing this and it makes a kid decide between going to JMU and another peer, I am all for it.

RE: New Uniforms?
I don't really know of anyone that does it on the FCS level with the budgets these schools are working with. We don't have Phil Knight buying 10 different helmets for each kid. Also, can anyone name a single FBS school who is doing this crap that has improved? Most of them go in the other direction. I'm not talking about a once a year alternate type of thing like Notre Dame. I'm talking about Maryland, WVU, VTs of college football. These are teams that before this were winning 10 games a year. Now, they suck but people keep telling me it helps recruiting. Look at the ESPN preseason top 25. Notice anything?

I've got to agree with you. There will be some who are materialistic and love to be different who it might make a difference to. However, there will be just as many who could give a "hoot", all they want to do is play ball, and drastic changes only move to ticking them off.

I believe its the people who stand to gain, who are the ones wanting you to believe that having many non-traditional uniforms makes a difference in recruiting.

I have no problem with a subtle change every couple of years. A stripe here and there, or gold pants w/purple jersey occasionally, but not the crap Tech, UMD, or WVU have been displaying.

Those things may give the team a momentary bit of excitement, but any real player simply wants to win and be participant in the victories.

RE: New Uniforms?
Rutgers is another program that was on the upswing until they went to a bunch of wacky uniform combos and fell right back to mediocrity. I know they lost Schiano, but still. Has anybody seen the nonsense Kansas is going to wearing this year? I never liked their uniforms but WTF?

RE: New Uniforms?
All to sell more jerseys and what not to the fans I guess.

It is even getting worse in the NFL with all their different unis (ever see those Steelers throwbacks from the 30's? Jeesh!! Look like a bunch of bumblebees!)
and Major League baseball is also following suit. How many home uniforms does the average MLB have now? 3 or 4?
As much as people hate on the Yankees at least, for the most part I think, they keep it simple. Pinstripes at home, gray on the road. As it should be.

That closet full of stuff that UMD has is ridiculous. Never sure what uniform is going to show up. Most of them make the players look like
clowns. Firm believer in the KISS principle.

One UMD uniform configuration makes them look like crash test dummies. I had - what appeared to be - a seizure while watching one of their games. Waaaaaay tooooo much going on.

Yeah I remember that combo. I was looking for the crash test dummy camera reference symbol
on the side of the helmets.

RE: New Uniforms?
Another thing I don't get is the perception that JMU doesn't do anything with their uniforms (and IMO they shouldn't but they've made a lot of tweaks in the last several years).

- Put the larger "Madison" across the front of the jerseys (now went back to smaller)
- Introduced gold jerseys
- Changed all jerseys to have sewn on numbering and lettering
- Changed the gold jerseys to purple numbers instead of white
- Put a stripe on all colors of pants
- Went away from the gold pants (I know some would like to see them back)
- Changed from traditional gold helmets to matte
- Removed purple sides from road white jerseys
- Changed the "JMU" decal on the helmet once with another change coming this year to a gold decal (we'll see how this looks from the stands)
- Enlarged the lettering on the back of the jerseys (personally not a big fan)
- Wore black jerseys in one game (I think this is the tiredest trend in football uniforms and nowhere near novel anymore)

So, it's not like JMU doesn't tweak it's uniforms which is all it should do. Last thing I want is for us to come out in some ridiculous crap like UMD. BTW, the NFL has strict rules on how often you can change your uniform. Also, I think you'll see less of the throwbacks because as of last year, the NFL mandated that players wear the same helmet all year long. For example, the Bucs were going to wear their creamsicle unis last year but had to cancel because they would have had to repaint the helmets and paint them back. It's a lot easier for teams who haven't changed helmet colors.

Absolutely love the original TB creamsicle unis. Immediately think of Doug Williams when I see one.

Love the JMU gold pants/purple jersey/gold helmet combo. IMO, best combo we have.

I like that as well, but oddly, I don't like it the other way.
