Just curious, what is the Sun Belt deal?

They got expanded coverage on ESPN3

I don't see any similarity between the 2 conferences tv deals. With this new deal, C-USA will have 67 of 77 home games on tv nationally or regionally plus any game on the latest deal will also be streamed via the C-USA digital network as will any game not televised. How is that at all similar to the SBC television situation?

So even though it's being shown on that new network anyone that cannot get it can buy a short term subscription to the CUSA digital network and see the game?
Yes. All CUSA games are streamed. No idea if they'll use the scoreboard stream or the ASN stream though. Hopefully the ASN stream.

Just wonder how much CUSA is paying Sinclair to carry their games.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sinclair_Broadcast_Group

What makes you think CUSA paid for the games to be carried?

I seriously doubt CUSA is making much (if any) coin off of this new package, but I also doubt we paid for it.

Assuming we've worked out all the kinks in the almost 10 years we've had this network. If it fails, hopefully it will be on a Russian website somewhere. 05-stirthepot

I seriously doubt CUSA is making much (if any) coin off of this new package, but I also doubt we paid for it.

Mainly because of the conferences it includes. It's announced as a Sports Rights And Content Development Agreements.
Special wording used in all references. Seems Sinclair sold everyone on their ability to carry the games and see what might develop.
Most of those conferences had no or little other choice, was this or their games not being carried anywhere.
None of the others have ever been paid for football game telecast, but have had to pay in most cases:
  1. Patriot League
  2. Southern Conference
  3. Colonial Athletic Association
  4. C-USA
  5. Big South Conference

"BALTIMORE, July 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: SBGI) (the "Company" or "Sinclair") announced today that it has launched the American Sports Network ("ASN"), a collegiate sports initiative to be broadcast on a number of Sinclair's broadcast television stations, and has entered into comprehensive sports rights agreements with a number of distinguished NCAA Division I conferences including Conference USA, the Colonial Athletic Association, Big South Conference, Southern Conference, and Patriot League. The initiative will be led by Doron Gorshein, Chief Operating Officer of Sinclair Networks, a division of Sinclair, who joined the Company in January 2014. The announcement was made by David Smith, President and CEO of Sinclair."

Not unlike ROOT sports Rocky Mountain which has a contract with the Big Sky, an FCS conference and tier 3 contract with the MWC.

The Sept. 20 matchup between Appalachian State and Southern Miss is the first game of a home-and-home series between the two schools. Southern Miss makes the return trip to App State’s Kidd Brewer Stadium on Sept. 19, 2015.

The Mountaineers and Golden Eagles are meeting on the gridiron for the first time in 77 years. In the lone previous matchup between the two schools, Southern Miss beat Appalachian, 7-0, in an unnamed bowl game in Biloxi, Miss. on Dec. 3, 1937. "

Doll and Toy Charity Game is what College Football Data Warehouse shows the 1937 bowl game to be.

1937 was the year we had not only an undefeated regular season, it was a season no one even scored on us, 206 to 0 in points until.....this bowl. game.

Sounds like we need some pay back against SoMiss.
77 years is a long time to wait.

I don't have an issue with streaming games. With a Google TV or a Sony Google TV internet player you can watch a lot of stuff.

Kidd Brewer passed away not long after our stadium was renamed, and if any players from that team are still alive they are mid-90's themselves. But if it were anyway to bring someone in that was connected to that year it would be neat to give the team a pep talk. Maybe a water boy that might be in his mid-80s can be found if the waterboy was a school kid then. If not that maybe a child of a player, heck even a grandchild that knows something or heard stories about that season. Dig out some old newspaper archives. Does Belk Library still have the microfilm editions of newspapers? Find it on Google, is the Watauga Democrat archived electronically. Just do something to connect to our history, if only for 5 minutes during the Friday evening team meal. That was a heck of an accomplishment, I don't care what the competition was like that year.
