Sounds like I struck a nerve. As someone who majored in broadcast media communications I've got a pretty good handle on how all this market stuff works. While the data clearly indicates size of market has no bearing on attendance, it also shows an overall lack of interest within the market. Which is a good indicator to how many TVs will be tuned in.
This is why I believe CUSA's criteria for selecting members based on size of market is extremely flawed. The number of TV sets in a market does not guarantee exposure. Quality of and demand for the product on the field is what drives people through the gates and to watch games on TV.

they don't care about attendance because they have a large tv audience.

I think the writing is pretty much on the wall for CUSA as far as TV goes. Their TV deal is going to tank when it has to be renewed.

People continue to confuse market share with population/location.
As for CUSA's numbers they lost ECU which averages 50K/game and replaced them with teams that average <20k.
But they haven't been weakened to hear them talk.

As I mentioned earlier, for 2013 that conference had a loss in average attendance of over 4,000, I'm sure from losing both Houston and UCF. This coming year the effects of losing ECU will kick in.
But then, I have to remind myself that 'they've got the F_U's marketshare.

It was really cold that game. That's the only game I sat in the press box for an entire game. I always hated sitting in there and preferred watching the game from the stands, but that day it wasn't so bad.

That, and even though playoff attendance is typically lower, attendance is typically under reported since we pay the NCAA on our attendance.
You want to rag on the 9k attendance game, but yet the next weekend we get over 20k.
The December 10 game the following year would be the weekend after school lets out, so that won't help attendance.
Do you really want to start getting into Ga State's attendance with their huge media market?
Great, so you found 3 games with sub par attendance ratings. Those 3 games still probably have a higher average than GState had last year.
And yes, our fan base is still better, and more passionate than State's. But then again, if our program was as garbage as yours, our fans probably wouldn't show up and support it either.
The next weekend... Old Dominion got over 20k. The game was in Norfolk.
Filling the stadium at ODU is easier. In a place like Boone or Statesboro, when students go on break, the population of the town drops a good bit.
That doesn't happen as much at a place like ODU because Norfolk has a lot of people and I'm sure a fair percentage of their students live in the 7 cities area.

Yep that's true. One advantage of being located in a "large market"

Glad you two have attendance figured out and are slapping each others fannies about it.
What happened to the large waiting list ODU supposedly had for their football seats?
Was reading on your board a few months ago that it really didn't exist and ODU was
calling people trying to fill the stadium since some people didn't renew tickets.

This really is one of the few examples I see in favor of large market benefits. I'm a GS season ticket holder and I'm not even sure I'll be in Statesboro for the ULM game. That's one of the few opportunities during the year I get to spend with most of my family and if they will all still be at my parents house in Atlanta on Saturday I'm not going to make the 3 hour drive there and 3 hour drive back. If the game were in Atlanta and I could get to it in 30 min, of course I'd be there. I'm pretty sure there are at least 5,000 students who feel the same way during the holiday season (aka why most early playoff game #'s are small).

Well it isn't very hard to look at attendance figures and see that they're normally lower during the playoffs, which occur when students are on break.
It isn't really relevant for FBS though because regular games will be over by then and almost any bowl game CUSA or SBC play in will be fairlypoorly attended anyway unless a hometown team in playing in the bowl (UL in NO or UNT in Dallas like last season).
