I'd wait till he makes the team first. The concerns that caused him to go undrafted still exist and he should dominate the summer league, as a fifth year senior he's much more of a finished product than most of the others.

I'm pulling hard for him since he's such a great representative of our university and I do believe that he'll find a role on an NBA roster but a good run in the summer league doesn't guarantee a spot on Phillys roster.

RE: SK is Back!
The way he's playing in the summer league makes it clear that he's ready to contribute to an NBA roster now. If Philly doesn't want him, someone will.

Last I checked Miami only has 4-5 guys under contract and is still in win-now mode without much cap space. That's a situation that begs for a guy like SK to come in at a low salary and contribute quality minutes off the bench.

That's like saying a young guy that hits the cover off the ball in Spring Training is ready for the majors. A lot of times it just isn't the case.

One man's experience with Sean Kilpatrick

This is an anecdote that Michael Perry, former Enquirer sports editor, UC beat writer, and a good friend, shared with me. I thought I would pass it along to UC fans.

Michael has updated his 2004 book "Tales from the Cincinnati Bearcats Locker Room," to include the best stories in the last 10 years, including the Mick Cronin coaching era and Andy Kennedy's stint as interim head coach.

In Michael's words, the following story tells of his experience in dealing with Sean Kilpatrick:

"When the publisher first sent me books after they were printed, probably around the end of September/early October, I emailed Sean to let him know I wanted to send him a book since he was on the cover. I asked where he was and he said in Cincinnati. He was rehabbing and working out at UC. I called and talked to him. He said he would be in town for about a week. His father also got on the phone and said he wanted to buy five copies to take back to New York. Sean and I agreed to meet so I could give him a book. (I had never met him in person.) I had just ordered 100 books from the publisher that were due to arrive Oct. 6. I emailed Sean on Oct. 4 and asked whether he would consider coming to my home to sign the 100 books and in exchange I would give his father the five books he wanted at no charge. Sean said that was perfect.

"On Monday night, Oct. 6, after coaching my daughter's soccer practice (which was cut short by a rain storm), SK, his father and uncle came to our home. They could not have been nicer. They sat down and Sean chatted with my kids, asking them all about the sports they played. He filled us in on his progress since his surgery and the rehab he was doing at UC. Then he sat down at our living room table and signed the 100 books. Along the way he took photos with me, the book, my kids and was posting to Twitter and Instagram. They were there close to an hour, maybe less. Sean, his father and uncle could not have been more kind, more humble, more gracious. I have not encountered many athletes as appreciative as Sean of the support he received from this city and the university. He has nothing but great things to say about Mick, the fans, UC. I had watched him on TV and read articles that always portrayed him to be an exemplary ambassador for the Bearcats. He certainly lived up to that. And when you meet his father, you can see where Sean gets it from. Just nice people."

If you want a copy of the book you can get one signed by SK at ucbearcatsbook@gmail.com. As of yesterday, Michael had two dozen of those remaining. You can also order an unsigned book at http://www.sportspubbooks.com.

The cost is $19.95 plus tax ($21.30), with an additional $4 if you want it shipped.

Michael will have a book signing with Corie Blount and Ruben Patterson at The Booksellers on Fountain Square this Saturday from 3-4:30 p.m.

RE: SK is Back!
When Mick was on with Lance, he talked about how he didn't like how SK's agents handled his injury and that it essentially prevented him from landing on a roster in time to make a team. It's great that the Warriors saw enough value in him to secure his rights - hopefully he will prove himself in the D League and get a call up this season or next.

Which one of them scored 2,000 points?

You won't get any argument from me that Danny was a better player than SK and I have no idea why his number hasn't been retired but for whatever reason it hasn't been done. For my money Danny is by a good stretch the best player of the Shoemaker 5/3 era.

I'd take SK over Logan but can understand arguments for Lo. SK's character, as evidenced in the article, makes him an easy choice for me as far as a guy who's number I want hanging at 5/3.

Logan Fortson Van Exel Sk

I don't understand how you cannot have Kenyon on that list. No Bearcat had a single seasons as good as Kenyon's 99-2000 season. Additionally he gave use 4 years (well 3.5). Van Exel was here for 2 years and was awesome. Neither of his 2 years was in the league of Kenyon's 4th where he was the consensus player of the year.

My List:

1. Kenyon- Best individual season, stayed 4 years. Great defensively from day 1, solid rebounder from day 1. Underrated scorer from early on as well. Became an amazing offensive player late in his career on top of the best defensive player in the country.

2. Logan- Another who gave us 4 years. Key player as a frosh. First guard off the bench on the best team of the Huggins era as a sophomore. Best player on the roster as a junior and first team all american as a senior. Scored more efficiently than SK, was a better passer, and I just thought was even more important to his team (hard considering how great and important SK was). Lead a pretty moderately talented UC team to a 1 seed in the tournament.

3. Fortson- Had the best Freshman- Junior stretch of any Bearcat in the Huggins era. I give the other two the advantage because they gave us amazing senior seasons. Had Fortson stayed 4 years he'd likely be #1 on the list. Best player on the glass I've seen at UC and the best post scorer I've watched play for UC. Probably just wasn't tall or athletic enough for that to translate to the NBA, but had a nice career none the less.

4. SK- Really good scorer throughout his career. I didn't think he was efficient enough for the amount of shots he took his junior year, but his senior year he found ways to get to the foul line which really improved his efficiency. He was asked to carry a huge scoring load and did it so well. Won a share of a conference title with a top flight Louisville team and the National Champion UConn team. Also in a comparison to Logan was a better defensive player by the end of his career. I'd be fine with any of these last 3 guys having their numbers retired.

3.

There's more to basketball than scoring. The guard who shall remain nameless sits between Logan and Fortson on the all-time list. Anyone that claims he was anything close to great immediately gets laughed at by me.

Fortson and Logan were consensus 1st team AA's along with 2nd team honors in the prior year. Both won CUSA POY twice. I'd definitely give Kilpatrick consideration, but not before either of those two guys.

SK played 3 years is the BE and last year in a conference with the last two national champions. Much more difficult to earn POY awards (although it was stolen from him last year).

And I certainly agree it's not all about scoring. SK much better defender than Lo. Lo had point guard ability (and played PG as a senior).

Napier earned it over Smith and Kilpatrick in the regular season by a tiny bit and proved himself deserving in the tournament.

I would have had no problem with any of those 3 winning it last year. Kilpatrick had a first team all american and conference player of the year caliber season. That said, whether he was in the Big East or not, Kilpatrick was not efficient enough as a junior to merit player of the year consideration. I think Logan had a much better Junior year than Kilpatrick and a slightly better senior year.

They really need to find a way to honor UC greats that were not the national POY. Mayeb build Kenyon and Twyman statues so that they all have that and start hanging jerseys, I wouldn't necessarily retire the numbers though.
