Somehow...I think the Warhawks will survive.

I don't know. I thought we'd never play Alabama again but there they are, on our 2015 schedule!

We have been playing UNM since 1894 in FB. But we didn't play again until about 10 years later. Under NM law (supposedly) we have to play UNM every year in all sports that both schools have. If you talk to our athletes on who they consider more of a rival, they generally say UTEP, mainly because our athletes and UTEP's run into one another in the El Paso Night Life. UNM competes for money with NMSU, UTEP competes for students with NMSU.

I think with the creation of the Rio Grande Rivalry Trophy (which some Aggies see as another ego stroke for UNM) it is just something for UNM shove in NMSU's face and say "look at us and we have done". NMSU has never won it in the 7 years of its existence. I think the trophy has kind of dampened some NMSU' fans spirits for the rivalry with UNM. As of late more NMSU fans/students/athletes seem to feel UTEP is more the rival then UNM. I always tell my UNM friends that they are not our main rival just to piss them off.

UNM and its fans have major superiority complexes. Not just toward NMSU, but the whole world in general. They consider themselves the Harvard of the Southwest. They think they belong in PAC 12 or the Big 12. Every time an NMSU's coach or President has there contract bought out (they were fired or resigned), there are a couple of State Legislators who graduated from UNM calling for the NM Attorney Generals office to investigate NMSU for misuse of public funds. NMSU's buy outs are a lot smaller then the ones UNM has to do. Overall UNM is very petty and vindictive towards NMSU. An astronomer from NMSU discovered Pluto, UNM had a heavy hand in seeing that his discovery get downgraded. NMSU is Conservative and UNM is Liberal. UNM gets all the money they want for Academics and Athletics, NMSU is under a microscopic review of whether we need any money. Overall there is a lot of hatred between the two schools. I think if either could get out of having to play one another ever again they would do it. Rivalries are suppose to be fun, yet the way UNM goes about doing things they would have NMSU turned into a parking lot.

UTEP hates us because we are a tier 1 school they are tier 2. NMSU offer's students from El Paso lower tuition rates, closer to the in state tuition. El Pasoans consider UTEP more of a commuter/junior college where as they look at NMSU as a university.

So who is the main major rival for NMSU? UNM is our instate rival and UTEP is our regional rival is the way I look at it. It would make things a lot easier for NMSU if we were in a conference with either rival. But nothing is ever easy for the Aggies. UTEP and UNM are so juvenile they have done everything to keep us out of being in a conference with them.

Would be funny if the SBC ever grew into the conference both of them wanted to be in some day. Sounds as if NMSU has it's hands full with UNM. Guess it could be worse, but do not see how.

When you look at our future games I think our AD forgets we have to schedule someone!

2015
@ Florida
@ Houston

2016
Houston

Other than the UTSA series starting in 2017....nada
(except Tulsa return game in 2018)

On par for our AD. Not proactive...........at all.

Ha! Sounds like our AD at North Texas! Ole Rick "asleep at the wheel" Villareal does a poor job when it comes to scheduling. IMHO

I think you will see more movement on 2017 once a Turner Field deal is cut. If the crews are able to pull up to the stadium the day after the Braves finish their season in 2016, they might be able to have it ready, depending on renovations, for 2017 opening. It would be a 10 month turn around. If not, 2017 is the first year of the new BlankWorld, which, I would think, would be more attractive for a bigger name OOC.

Just do not lose to Liberty.

Y'all have to keep that promise first.
Never made a promise.
No pressure but If you lose that game you have to flip conferences with them.

Would question if we should be in this conference if that is the case.

I can say that our President after his first year is accomplishing a lot for NMSU both athletically and academically. I think that it really helps that he is a Graduate of NMSU and has taught at NMSU, to see what needs to be done for the betterment of NMSU.

Maybe NMSU can reverse fortunes this year and win the Brass Spittoon.
The ultimate OOC though is to beat NMU consecutively and often. Sounds as if
that will get NMSU more rep than anything OOC wise. You did that a
couple of years ago so there is hope regardless of last year's score.

Would be funny if the SBC ever grew into the conference both of them wanted to be in some day. Sounds as if NMSU has it's hands full with UNM. Guess it could be worse, but do not see how.
I just hope that the actions of UNM and UTEP toward NMSU come back to haunt them someday. A karma sort of thing.

I can say that our President after his first year is accomplishing a lot for NMSU both athletically and academically. I think that it really helps that he is a Graduate of NMSU and has taught at NMSU, to see what needs to be done for the betterment of NMSU.

I can see our two universities having a rivalry.
So do I.

The ultimate OOC though is to beat NMU consecutively and often. Sounds as if
that will get NMSU more rep than anything OOC wise. You did that a
couple of years ago so there is hope regardless of last year's score.

Our HC was the OC for NMSU the last time we had four wins. One of those games was the last time we beat UNM. He looked into the FB teams history and found that when NMSU beats both its rivals in the same season, we have a winning season.

I just hope all SBC teams do well in their OOC games.

That should set your short term achievable goal then.
Do that and turn Pistol Pete into a happy cowboy.

Is and has New Mexico always been your main major rivalry?

I am now a NMSU fan! Your struggle is much the same as stAte has and you could plug in stAte for NMSU / Arkansas (although they are afraid to play us) for UNM and Memphis for UTEP.

We know what it's like to have a larger university in the state as a true enemy. I imagine most of the SBC schools can relate.
