Now if you want to replace that with a student fee, that would be, what, over $400 a year at ULL and substantially more at La Tech.

UL has not transferred $8 Mil in the last two years. In fact, $1.5 mil has been used on the academic side those years. Tech is at their max right now from the state.

Actually, the amount is around $7.5M per year for fiscal years ending 6/30/12 and 6/30/13.

Had he bothered to read the report, he would have known that.
So you're quibbling over $7.5 million v. $8 million? Note I said c. $8 Million. Further note that even with that $7.5 million general fund transfer the department ran a 500K deficit.

You just can't quit us can you? What will you say when we surpass the mighty La Tech's athletic budget this year? What will you say when Cajun Field and the Athletic Performance Center is complete 1.5 years after the announcement, while La Tech has waited 3+ years just to break ground on a scaled down version of their end zone facility? Do you want me to keep going, because I can.

Not 3+ years, actually 5+ years they were raising money. Sugar daddy Davison must have decided he is tired of dumping money into an empty hole. This is the same group that laugh at UL's portable buildings and now it looks like they are the ones the need those buildings. I don't take any group of fans seriously that can't even put enough butts in their home stadium and cover the empty seats with blue tarps.

I know that Dr Savoie has withheld just over $1 million dollars from the transfer since the formation of the RCAF.

The reason why we don't transfer the entire 3% is because we don't have to transfer as much to cover our expenses. Our other sources of revenue (ticket sales, donations, media rights, etc) cover a good portion of the expenses. What expenses aren't covered by those revenues is subsidized by the General Fund transfer.

If we want to utilize the entire 3% transfer, then we would need to increase our expenses so that we would utilize more of the transfer allowable.

Baloney! I have heard that excuse before and you can find ways to spend that money, just go ask any coach if they would like some new equipment or an increase in recruiting budgets. Farmer has ran the athletic department over budget the last two years and you can't find the any more expenses? It's amazing to me how some people swallow the crap they are feed from our athletic department. Ask Hudspeth if he couldn't have used more funs after they used all their funds for camps and recruiting last season.

It's been verified that Dr. Savoie has been using $1.5 Mil of the money that is allowed from the state towards filling holes at UL because of state budget cuts. He is allowed to do it by law. But please don't tell people the athletic department needs to spend more funds to get the full allotment from the state when the last two years UL has finished in the red in athletics.

I haven't been 'fed' anything from the athletic department. I'm simply pointing out WHY we don't use the 3%...and that's using my background as a CPA. I think it's great that we don't use the entire 3%. Keep that money with the university to make it better than it already is.

I'm fine with Dr. Savoie keeping some money that the university earned. Good for him. We are allowed to transfer up to 3%...it isn't required that we actually do it. You are advocating that the university simply hand over the 3%, regardless of whether it is spent or not. Dr. Savoie isn't dumb. He is making sure that the athletic spends the money it requests from the General Fund.

I love hearing about "budgets" and people talking about how USAToday posts all of the athletic department "budgets." Learn a little bit about financials and you'll realize that we are talking about actual numbers and not budgets. Point me in the direction of the UL athletic budget and we'll see if UL actually overspent it's "budget."

LOL!! You might be a CPA; I've been reading P&L Statements for years, some of them my own. I know the difference between actual numbers and budgets, and I also know what is allowed by the state and what isn't. Do yourself a favor and actually speak to someone that sits on the RCAF Board and gets the annual report from UL before you repeat the load of crap you did on this forum. I know very well that Dr. Savoie is within his legal rights to spend the state dollars as he wishes. My point is and remains, don't say we are using every dollar allowed and we don't need the rest. That is nonsense and they feed those half truths to koolaid drinkers like yourself that aren't willing to call other people in the know and actually ask questions.

I do speak with RCAF board members actually. I am not feeding half truths. I am correcting half truths that you are throwing out there.
