(07-08-2014 11:07 AM)ArmoredUpKnight Wrote:  Congrats to the AAC, according to coacheshotseat.com we don't have a single coach that is in risk of losing their job this season.

UCF's George O'Leary is the 2nd safest coach in the FBS, only losing out to FSU's Jimbo Fisher.

The ranking is out of 126 FBS programs.

#27 Willie Taggart - USF
#32 June Jones - SMU
#38 Bill Blankenship - Tulsa
#39 Justin Fuente - Memphis
#41 Matt Rhule - Temple

#53 Tony Levine - Houston
#62 Bob Diaco - UConn
#73 Tommy Tuberville - Cincy
#83 Curtis Johnson - Tulane
#106 Ruffin McNeil - ECU
#125 George O'Leary - UCF

Dumb list. Taggart is not on any hot seat. If he has another poor season, he could start to get slightly warm next year, but not much. He hasn't even had a chance to implement any of his recruits or schemes yet to any great extent. Also, where is USF going to find a coach that can recruit anywhere near the level of Taggart. I think it would take about 4 bad seasons in a row to get rid of Taggart. He's personable and he's a tremendous salesman. With the recruits he's bringing in, it will be virtually impossible for USF not to improve some.

USF fans are taking the list out of context. The website clearly says Taggart is "EDGE OF HOT SEAT"

No one is saying Taggart is on a Hot Seat.

41 for Rhule is ridiculous. He's Temple through and through despite playing at Penn State, his wife works at Temple, he doesn't make a ton of money, he's given every indication that he actually wants to be here, and he's in only his second year taking over Steve Addazio's mess of a roster, and doing so with very few upperclassmen. He should've been ranked right next to Curtis Johnson at the worst.

He is not even on the edge he would have to have a couple of more losing seasons

Jones flirtation with the Arizona State job, seeming indifference when it comes to recruiting, lack of success against traditional rivals (former SWC schools), and a host of real and imagined insults of SMUs traditions, has him on thin ice with fans.

The quick turnaround by Larry Brown and SMU Basketball has raised expectations for SMU football beyond a .500 season and a Generic Product Sponsored Bowl game. There is no reason that a competent coach and a hungry staff could not replicate for football, what Brown has done for basketball.

I like Jones and appreciate what success he brought to the Hilltop. If he knocks out 10+ wins this season, I will heartily thank him for what he has done for SMU. Like other SMU fans, I'm concerned that we have not recruited the quality of athletes the last few years needed to compete against most of the teams on our schedule. I hope I am wrong about this.

Seems to me SMU should target 5 candidates they really like and think they could land, in case Jones does not elevate the program more.

RE: Hot Seat! Coaches in the AAC
SMU can do better than Jones and yes, he should be on the hot seat.. especially after the Arizona State fiasco.

The best small private-school hire in a long time goes to the Deacs; Dave Clawson is one hell of a good coach and he will do wonders for that program in the long run. There are other coaches out there like him...

I would think that a quality assistant is out there, maybe at a place like Wake, Duke, Notre Dame or even Baylor. Heck, BYU could have a few that y'all would want to look at. The SMU job is a good one; someone just needs to capitalize on it.

Hard to take seriously any ranking of 'safe' coaches that has O'Leary safer than say Nick Saban. 07-coffee3

Or that he would be moving on to Texas lol

TrollGrass posted a flat out lie about UC on the college sports/realignment board.

I've seen that happen more and more frequently around here. I think I remember someone who's never visited ECU claim we have only been a residential campus for 10 years or so.....this has always been a residential university.

Chances are if you have to prove to people your school has a residential campus then it's not known to be that residential after all.

3 more years after the upcoming season (through 2017). Of course it's just a paper extension that doesn't financially shackle the CoC to June like the last one did. As for the coaching search, any short list worth a damn will have Chad Morris (Clemson OC) at the top followed by Tom Herman (Ohio State OC), Philip Montgomery (Baylor OC), and David Beaty (A&M WR Coach/Recruiting Coordinator). The new AD seems to understand how important it is that we improve recruiting so hopefully his coaching search candidates will reflect those beliefs. The last thing we need is another abomination of a coaching search resulting in us hiring another lazy, aging merc who intends to use the CoC as a retirement/vacation piggy bank.

The short list is Scott Frost, Pete Lembo and Bobby Wilder. from a CoC member

Ouch, 0 years of coaching in Texas between them. Looks like they're trying to pinch pennies with this hire.

It seems that, with the pressure of getting back to the power conferences, that the coaches from the old BE teams would be under the gun, especially from what UC has been publicizing to get to the P5.

Nope great assistants will be hired. Money will not be spared. We put all our money into one coach with June instead of spending on multiple coaches

Right on that one. I have to admit wanting him gone, but, fortunately, Hitt was running the show.

If you read the OP, the very first sentence was about avoiding the list of Hot Seat coaches

So they're going to hire some nondescript outsider for pennies then load up the coaching staff around him? Why not hire a guy from with Texas ties and load up the coaching staff? They better hope "great" assistants will want to work for whatever paperweight they hire or the thing will completely backfire.
