RE: Zable
If we keep the end zone seats does that include the tents?

Tent seats could be sold at a premium!

If you haven't expressed your opinion on this email both Bobby Dwyer and Terry Driscoll. rtdwye@wm.edu and Terry through Jamie Labianco at jllabi@wm.edu.

Just shot an email off to them in strong support. It really is amazing the difference that end zone seating makes in a small stadium.

This question was not asked at the meeting but the strong implication is that the West stands will remain "as is" with the exception of new hand rails for safety on all stadium steps, AND ALL NEW SEATING all with back rests.

The major construction/addition will be BEHIND the existing West stands and will include additional seating, Press Box, VIP Boxes, etc.

The East side will definitely get safety handrails on the stadium steps. It was unclear to me from the meeting whether the East side seating would be replaced/upgraded.

The Athletic Dept appears to be looking at the new football stadium at the University of Richmond as a model, even thou that stadium seats only 8,000.

Timeline: Tribe will play football in the present stadium for the next two seasons. At the end of the 2015 season, construction will begin on the stadium improvements. The plan/hope is the "new" stadium will be ready for the 2016 football season. There are no firm plans yet but the specs are out for bid by architectural firms to respond with a proposal/plans for the improvements.

The major changes will affect only the West side of the stadium, but there will be some minor changes to the East side.

Capacity: There will be no change in seating capacity; there may be a few more, or a few less seats depending upon the architectural proposals.

Bathrooms: There will be a lot more bathrooms, mostly on the West side but a few on the East side [maybe]. #of bathrooms is dictated by FEDERAL REGULATIONS.

Railings: Rails on the stadium steps will be installed on both sides of the stadium - this met with a round of applause from the group asembled at W&M Hall [average age - 75].

Press Box: There will be a fancy new Press Box and "Luxury Suitues" on the upperlevel of the West side, to be serviced by two elevators as well as stairs.

Temproary end zone seating: It is planned that these will continue as is; except that the Presidents Box will be moved over to one of the Luxury Boxes on the West Side.

The running track is going to stay where it is and no consideration is being given to "lowering the field" to improve sight lines. However, the congestion caused by the current "player entrance" onto the field is being given consideration???

The eventual seating capacity is up in the air because GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS require more seating space per person than is curently allocated in the stadium.

That's all I can remember for now, if anybody has any other questions, reply to this post and I'll try to answer.

Regarding capacity then - given the acknowledgement of the new suites on west side and maintaining the end zones - the upper level of new seats above the suites that were on the original drawings must not be in the final plans. That was another 3,000 seats.

The number of seats will be driven by the architectural plans and/or proposals. Because of Federal Regulations regarding seat size, etc we will end up with fewer seats in the existing stands so the "additional seats" being added will be essentially, a "wash" with respect to the total stadium capacity .

There was strong support at the meeting to retain the end zone bleachers. Because these bleachers are "Temporary" it is relatively easy and inexpensive to retain them. [But e-mails in support of retaining the bleachers to Driscoll/Dwyer/Milne would certainly help the case in favor].

It is invisioned that the groups that presently occupy the "Tents" will migrate to the VIP Boxes above the West Stands; but I am sure that, if the new VIP Boxes are sold out a proposal to retain the tents would not be too tough a sell.

Yes the Presidents box & the other tent holder will move to boxes. I for one would pay 50-100% more for a covered seat (more than the end zone ticket price). So if people agree put that in your email.

For example the QB club may want a tent or a group of people may want to rent the tent for the season.

RE: Zable
One of the early plans had 10 boxes over the east side, and then I think there would be (still be?) two boxes on the west side over the cattle entrance.

"East is East and West is West", etc - the "cattle entrance" is on the East side of the Stadium.

Go me...clearly I missed the class on what is East and what is West. I should just stick to landmarks.

The "cattle entrance" side will have the two boxes while the "other" side will have ten boxes (according to one of the earlier proposed plans).

Found this video link of computer generated 3D models of the expansion...pretty exciting and gives a nice birds-eye perspective on the scope of the project. Looks pretty big!

Interesting that it looks like a video from a firm that didn't win the bid.

That is a very cool video. I noticed a caption that said 3 months ago, which is is odd..On August 17 during the Williamsburg meeting regarding stadium renovations when asked if there were any sketches, artist renditions, or anything of what the improved Zable would look like the crowd was told no there was not. It was nice to see the video included the end zone bleachers .

Ignore my previous statement, I reread the press release and this firm is handling the pre-construction. At least I'm pretty sure, the press release says Barton Marlow, while the video says Barton Malow. Pretty sure it's a typo on our website. I'm excited to see this get going.

Would be awesome if there were concession stands at the mezzanine edges (shown in the mock-ups to either side of the central luxury suites with open air views of the field...see below link ). Could grab a snack and stretch the legs without missing the action.

RE: Zable
Anyone else notice the capacity for Zable this year is now listed at 11,686 (previously 12,279).

Just noticed on the game notes for Norfolk State. Must be the new box on the south end zone which replaced about 500 seats.

Good catch, I didn't notice that, but it makes sense with the new box. I've been checking on ticket sales, and we seem to be doing pretty well for games so far this year, I think we might have most of our games well over 10,000.

It is interesting that the seating chart for Zable Stadium for the Norfolk State game in today's pre-game write-up do not indicate any boxes in the South End Zone. Wonder what is going on?

Somebody probably used the old seating chart. On that South endzone side there's now only one student section and the box takes up half of GA7 and GA9. You can actually see the box in the picture retweeted by tribeathletics.com from the cross country team. I tried to link the picture, but the picture that was in the little twitter feed on the tribeathletics.com is different from the one that actually shows up when you click on the tweet.

Edit: The picture in the lower left of these four has a good shot of the new box in the South endzone: http://t.co/AjGj5lniaQ
