Increased immigration is the only thing that can defuse the welfare bomb this country straddles. The Republicans are too gutless to ever cut federal welfare programs ... so the only end around is to increase the worker base and thus the economy and shift the ratio of retired to workers back in favor of workers.

Uneducated, undocumented workers making low wages and paying little to no taxes but utilizing welfare, WIC, SNAP, free education and healthcare hardly seems like a population to positively impact the US taxpaying worker base. The democratic voting, freeloader base will grow with an influx of illegals but not the taxpaying worker base.

They want into the United States for economic opportunity. We need to increase the worker base. Here's some conditions off the top of my head:

1) Forfeiture of all federal welfare, with the exception of public education (K-12 ONLY) and getting NO MORE than what you pay into social security. Forfeiture by default of all state welfare, but states can opt-in on a state by state basis. But by default they are opted out.
2) You submit to full federal knowledge of all accounts, both private and business, you have with financial assets, for 20 years.
3) You submit to a 50% federal tax penalty on ALL expatriated assets. If you are caught cheating this, the penalty is permanent deportation.
4) You must learn and be proficient with English if you are 18 or older. All children must reach proficiency before their 19th birthday.
5) You submit to a full health examination. You can pay the cost or a charity can pay it for you.
6a) You must have or pay for immunization against major diseases (MMR, etc, etc)
6b) You must have no major health condition which you could spread. I even include AIDS and herpes in this.
7) You must have no criminal record



And as Draconian as that is, it is still easily better than 95% of the rest of the planet. No country that shuts its doors to immigration has ever thrived as the global leader. It is better to have your feet firmly planted in reality and open the front door than live in fantasy and let the congo line continue into the back door.

Nice thought but how will these destitute group "pay" for the medical exams?

You make historically inaccurate claims to support a very much pie-in-the-sky vision.

1. "No country that shuts its doors to immigration has ever thrived as the global leader" Doesn't even make sense. China, Russia, England, Spain, all thrived for some period of time as global leaders.

2. The founding of the US was on principles of English law. That foundation was fractured by the immigration influxes of the 19th C, and the US has suffered for it greatly. It is being tested further by this most recent invasion.

3. You fantasize that immigrants would give up these benefits...but even if they did so, that would likely change as they gained more voting power and leftist advocacy. History demonstrates that's true, as it's on-going even today (Dream Act, legalized voting for non-citizens, public schools encouraging activism, Mass workers no appealing for their Social Security that was traded away by Dukakis)

4. As I mentioned, any prohibition of entry would just create a black market...one that was more readily funded and assisted by immigrants already in the US. And see #3 for the more public response to that.

5. "We need to increase the worker base." A fact readily accomplished by removing the impairments to employing US citizens. I already posted a link that indicated all 21st C job growth in the US was to immigrants...even as unemployment is ragingly high. Increasing the US employment base can easily come from the US population.
