13/14 has been a great year for the G5/FCS/1AAA programs
UConn wins Men's & Women's Hoops titles
The MAC has a True Freshman win a 197 lb Wrestling Title(JDen Cox, Mizzou)
MAC Athletes Take the Men's Indoor Pole Vault National Title(Shawn Barber, Akron) and finish 2nd in the Outdoor Pole Vault National(Barber) just a SO
& Women's Outdoor Pole Vault Title ( Annika Roloff) also just a SO. and the Men's Hammer Throw Matthias Tayala
If that weren't enough Union College beats Minny in the Men's Frozen Four Hockey Championship.
The P5 aren't so powerful are they

RE: 13/14 has been a great year for the G5/FCS/1AAA programs
There is no G5 in basketball, and Missouri is an SEC school who happens to have their wrestling program in the MAC. Missouri is the furthest thing from a G5 school.
Plus in hockey its only D1 (58 schools) and D3 (79 schools). Union's only D1 sport is hockey.
The P5 is dominate, no matter how you look at it.

NCAA Division I: ONE Classification divided into THREE sub-divisions
In the NCAA, there is only:
Division I
- Division I-A (FBS) - Full football membership, 85 scholarships, must sponsor 16 varsity sports for men and women.
- Division I-AA (FCS) - Cost-containment football membership, 63 scholarships, can sponsor two fewer (14) varsity sports.
- Division I-AAA - Non-football membership, must sponsor 14 varsity sports.
Division II - Must sponsor 10 varsity sports, maximum 36 football scholarships.
Division III - No athletic aid awarded.

No, they are not, now please find a way to fix the payment ratio accordingly.

The P5 programs spend far more $ for coaching salaries and play more non conference home games than the Mid Major & Low Major programs do; to say that there is no divide regarding resources between the P5 and the rest of the NCAA is ludicrous. Yet a non P5 program won both the Men's and Women's Titles.
Mizzou's wrestling program is in the MAC, the MAC is not a major conference.
I couldn't list D2 in the title of the thread, there wasn't enough room, obviously Union is D2 for all other sports which makes their NCAA Men's Hockey Championship that much more remarkable as they defeated programs with far more resources than what they have.
The non power conferences had a great season, showing the P5 programs how to do more with less $

Lol at claiming UConn. The AAC is a power conference in basketball.

If you aren't in the ACC, SEC, B10, B12 or 12 PAC you aren't a power conference; you're a G5 get used to it.

If Western Kentucky wins the NCAA tournament then this thread makes a lot more sense. And wrestling doesn't count if the SEC doesn't sponsor it.

Well than according to your logic (?) Ice Hockey & Volleyball doesn't count either because the sec doesn't sponsor it, on you

Considering that the MAC is one of the better wrestling leagues do we really count for that especially since it was Missouri that won it? Consider that it was in one of the best wrestling conferences and is a P5 in teh major sports. NOt sure that would count as a "little guy" win.

Then why do you continue to view it and respond. Better yet why not admit your really an SEC fan since you believe if they don't sponsor a sport it is inconsequential

This thread is still stupid. Wrestling is disgusting. I prefer NFL over SEC.

RE: 13/14 has been a great year for the G5/FCS/1AAA programs
I know people like to look at the American as a regular G5 conference, but that's football -- in basketball the AAC is a major basketball conference... even after losing Louisville and Rutgers...
The American will have five 20+ win teams returning in the fall... Four NCAA Tournament teams returning including defending National Champion UCONN, Cincy, Memphis, and newcomer Tulsa (who was also the C-USA Champion)... Plus, three other teams who made post-season appearances including Tulane, East Carolina, and the NIT Runner-up SMU.

I think the American is a fine conference. If I had a choice for NIU to play in the American or MAC I would choose the American.
My main beef with this thread is acting like Mid-Majors had a great year when two of the championships mentioned were won by UCONN and Missouri.
