Kind of shocking...

nobody said the world would end. It just basically proved everyone's point that you, along with SBC teams, do recruit against the likes of Penn State and other big name programs. You guys swore up and down that state doesn't go after kids that penn would be interested in, and even your coach said it.

...and you found one...grrrrreaaaat

And by the way, most people absolutely did say the world would end in a big crunch when we did this.
No the world was not going to end, but it will hurt your program more and more. You will never see the full effect because you do not know what you could do on your own. You will not even know which kids Penn State takes that Georgia State may have picked up. We have told you, but you do not listen, so we got tired of telling you.
Certainly not pointless. Your fans were telling us that the SBC doesn't stand a chance at four star recruits and almost everyone else was saying that was not always the case. We were told could never hurt Georgia State or anyone by inviting Penn State to have their staff come to your football camp, because PSU recruited a higher caliber of player than the SBC could ever get.

I tried, but you're actually dragging conversations from other threads into this.

You've decided which points to argue and their all flawed. Penn State coming to Georgia State was just fine. World didn't end. USA is getting 4 star kids. Everything is mostly as it was before.

A few things. I believe this is the first four star ever signed (he has not actually signed yet) by a SBC school directly from high school. If he is not, I'd bet no one here can name five (out of over 3,000 signed recruits since 2001) that were four stars directly out of high school. Even if you can, which I bet most cannot, the percentage is so astronomically low that its a moot point. When you look at it like that, do we actually compete for four star players directly from high school? On paper, yes, but the results say we almost never in a million bazillion years reel one in, whether Penn State is involved or not.

Some of South Alabama's high caliber recruits have decided to go to USA because they want to stay close to home. USA is the only big time school in Mobile. GSU does not have that luxury. Big time recruits can stay at home and attend UGA or GT. USA and GSU, even though they are both young programs, are not capable, at this point, of signing the same caliber recruits. GSU is hindered much more by the fact that they went 0-12 and are one of the worst programs in the country than because they invited PENN STATE for a camp. You guys are comparing apples and oranges. GSU probably had zero chance with the USA commitment, and it had nothing to do with Penn State.

That was the point. The almost 500 posts by your fans telling us that you nor the SBC competed against PSU. No matter what we said or how we explained it were you going to listen. You were hurting GaSt and other schools by doing it. Believe it or not we all want to see GaSt do well, because you are a fellow conference member and we all want the SBC to do well, not give up and say they cannot compete against other schools. No matter who the school is.

And if you do not go after the four star players you are giving up on them. You cannot afford to, nor can anyone. Additionally one can lead to two and two to three; if other high star recruits see how it may help one that did it, it could change the whole recruiting pattern. I don't think Troy will give up on players that could help them so much, nor should any of us. Would think Louisiana is in perfect situation to maybe land a couple with three straight bowl wins, conference championships and stadium expansion, for example. Anyone can sign one every now and then that wants to stay close to home, including Georgia State.

I'm not saying not to go after four star recruits. But the results are the same. Whether we have been or have not been going after 4-Stars, the results are the same: We have signed no (for all practical purposes) four star recruits out of high school. I'm having trouble thinking of any. Louisiana may have signed one and USA has one committed. Too many conclusions are being drawn to say Penn State's presence is going to ruin GSU's chances of becoming better. If were not all saying that, and it's not that serious, then it doesn't need to come up in every thread.

We're talking about GSU, not UL, ASU, or USA. We wouldn't be having this discussion if it were Savannah State hosting Penn State. We know SSU has no chance. But we forget that while GSU will get better, they and PSU are in two separate universes right now. In three or four, maybe five years, you all would have a point.

If a kid is good enough to play for UGA or GT and wants to stay close to home, he will not sign with Georgia State. UGA and GT are close enough, if that's the kids reasoning. USA can do it because it's three hours to next Division 1 school. USA has a distinct advantage over Georgia State (and many SBC teams in that regard).

Also, he is listed as a 4-Star by 247 only. He is listed as a 3-Star by all other major recruiting services. Depending on who offers this kid, and how long he stays committed, recruiting services have the right to downgrade recruits to 3-Stars if he's not the "darling" they expect him to be.

If you think you cannot do something, you are giving up on it. You may know the odds are
against you. Makes it that much more of an opportunity for you to overcome those odds,
and quite an accomplishment when you do. Often a new employee will do something or
accomplish something that an employee that has been there a long time will not attempt
because they "know they can't do it." Same thing.

But that same employee who doesn't over come those odds and uses a company's resources to go after the high risk, high reward outcome and fails... gets fired.
It is all about opportunity cost, plain and simple.

Not exactly. It's a decent point, but a when a new employee makes waves, it's a big deal, but usually not on the level of going from signing mostly NRs and 2-Stars to consistently getting 4-Stars.

I'd like to offer an alternative to your point. Not that you're wrong or that I'm right: I remember reading in SUCCESS magazine a few months about a CEO's only seminar. The CEO of a major company made the statement (paraphrased) that most young entrepreneurs and business owners come in with way too high expectations. They think they can change the world with all their great ideas and vigorous enthusiasm. When they meet reality, they learn to temper their expectations. Some may eventually get where there going, but it's always usually never right away.

And in GSUs case "right now" is most likely not on the same level as PSU. Not to mention we don't even know how many GA recruits Penn State will even sign, let alone how many will have offers from both programs. This is really not going to be a big deal, and it will come out next February we see the proof. The only way PSU has a big impact is if GSU's aggregate rankings go down from last season, and PSU signs players with offers from GSU. Not likely.

It's one thing to shoot for the stars, but you can't do it blindly. You have to have a dose of realism. We can have all the theories in the world about the enormous impact of Penn State's presence at this camp, or we can deal with the likely reality that it will have little to no effect.

Simple. You never stop recruiting the two star and the three star players also.
They are you bread and butter. However if you never reach for the stars you
never get any more done, you never have a break out class. If it was easy
everyone could do it.

But yet there are some businesses that it would not drain the companies resources. Many times in sales. Agree you do not squander vital resources on high risk / high reward clients more
than a company can afford, but you also take a shot at what some
would think unobtainable because to not is to concede that it can
never be done.

I'm not saying you never shoot for 4-Star athletes. What I'm saying is it's all moot because in the end its doubtful anything will come of this.

RE: Huge 2015 commit for South Alabama
Holy crap. We didn't give up on recruits that would likely pick Penn State over us. Someone even gave a SINGLE example of a kid with offers from both. We have offers out to a bunch of 4 star athletes. That never stopped. We have offers out to guys with offers from Bama, UGA, GT, and all kinds of other BCS schools. We are recruiting against them!

It STILL doesn't matter much that we invited Penn State down to be our guests for a prospect camp. They found ONE guy they didn't have before. Seriously. One 2016 guy got an offer from Penn State. There were around 250 kids there. The numbers just don't add up for this to be as big of a deal as you seem to want to make it.

Now can we get back to congratulating USA on the awesome pickup?

Out of ESPNs rankings... only 3 recruits out 1091 signed the past 5 years in the Sun Belt were 4 star players. This is .2% of all signed players. Manpower and time are things that you only have limited resources of. So you better be confident you have someone, because that is time and manpower is taken from the next man up. And on paper it is easy to say never stop recruiting 2 and 3 star guys, but if you are legitimately trying to snag a 4 star guy, it means several 2 or 3 star guys aren't going to get recruited as hard. Why? A four star means a full court press from your team. So those 2 and 3s you spent less time with possibly choose a school who has spent more time on them, and the worst case scenario is if that 4 star guy that you make such an effort on... flips. And you're scrambling with a recruiting season ruined. It is how coaches lose jobs.

In this case, USA focused on the right 4 star and sounds like they got him. Kudos to them. Nicely done. When you find the right one, and you pounce, you get rewarded.

No, am pretty much ignoring you because you go on and on with no real retorts, just your personal feelings.

Are mods allowed to troll so hard? lol

I stated facts:
- We have continued to offer 4 star kids. We just offered WR Ryan Davis out of Florida today with all the experts predicting he ends up at the National Champions, Florida State.
- We've offered kids with offers to Georgia, GT, Bama, and yes, even, Penn State.
- Penn State only offered one kid from a camp of about 250.

How are those just my feelings? They're facts that go against what some of your only arguments against the Penn State camp are.

I stated my point, you stated your point.
You certainly are not going to convince me that GaSt having Penn State's football staff at their camps is good for GaSt or any other schools,
and the reverse you are not going to be convinced otherwise.
There was almost 500 posts done on this previously. Even though your fans claim no one would get the type players
Penn State was going after, that was proved wrong....yet you keep insisting that you are right.
So, since you are wrong, but keep insisting you are right, it seems obvious you never intend to agree that it is bad for
Georgia State. So what's the point to continue a discussion under those circumstances.
