A: **sorry, didn't get all of it**

showcasing all of our accomplishments (NCBETA: he lists them, y'all know them). Increase resources, show we're willing to do everything for our student athletes that the other schools will do. Mentions remedying tv revenue.

Increase attendance

Upgrade facilities

Keep knocking down the door

Big East was a league teams really grew under, thinks the AAC can be that league as well.

ECU- Always been a great program, just hasn't had the spotlight of exposure. UCF/USF- almost biggest schools in the country, UH, big resources - 6 schools that were either BCS schools or in SWC - Cincy was #3 under Brian Kelley at one point, UConn, huge athletic budget- Navy, huge national presence- We've got schools that have either been power schools and done this before or have the fans and resources to get it done.

Ecu great program needs to be discovered, believe me, it will be discovered. look at UCF - what they acheived under the AAC. The media exposure will be huge to develop this league.

Sounds like a long term deal and that we will get a pay day with an extension. I guarantee that we will get a raise soon

Gotta be honest---I expect no raise will be coming anytime soon. Aresco pretty much admitted there is no set "look in". We can extend the agreement, but the raise is likely going to be very incremental in that situation because our track record is quite short.

The first realistic opportunity to adjust the contract a little early is probably in 2018 when the Navy independent contract with CBS expires. By then we would have a 4 year track record (hopefully an impressive one) and only have 2 years remaining on the current ESPN deal. That's about the same juncture where ESPN made their billion+ offer to extend the Big East contract (which was rejected) just prior to Pitt and Syracuse leaving.

He also said that the presidents were pushing him and that there would be discussions soon. I think he may try to strike while the iron is hot. We couldn't have had a better year

very interesting....he worked at ESPN and was part of the team who worked with ECU on it's independent TV deal back in the 90ties...he worked with Dave Hart on that deal......

so he's known about and has valued ECU for at least 2 decades now.

RE: Aresco at ECU this week
so it was a 6 year deal.....Mike will be sitting down with John Skipper soon (down the road)........so folks will have to be a tad patient here and hope there's no more movement in the short term....we need stability..we all need to stick together and keep performing on the field....then hopefully we'll be in a good position with a little leverage to get more money.....in the meantime...each of our schools should maximize all other revenue streams as possible.....

and Mike is planning on coming back to Greenville for the SMU @ ECU football game. He said Jeff Compher is planning some "special things" for our first AAC conference game....

(paraphrased) A: Current schools very happy with TV exposure. We want to look into getting more $$. We don't have a guarantee to reopen contract. May have the opportunity to extend contract and we're looking into it. Need to get donors excited about the conference, etc. Need to use our resources wisely. Continue to be innovative, schools like the Miami beach bowl, like the idea of the UCF Dublin game. Miami bowl will payoff and is financially secure.

In basketball, help schools get their RPI's up, don't want another SMU case. In the future we're going to make sure things like that can't happen.

In my view a six year contract extension that moved revenue into the $6 million to 8 million range that also included a grant of rights or some other mechanism to ensure stability would be a home run for Aresco. With ESPN behind the American the conference will be able to compete with the power five and afford the same changes that might be to pricey for the rest of the gang of five conferences.

There is not set definition/date for reopening the contract...but one way it would open is "change in membership"...which is maybe why Aresco seems to be dancing with BYU lately.

ESPN can always choose to offer more $$$ prior to end of contract (though they don't have to) but a win-win for each could be change in membership (change in target markets, more inventory/games to telecast, brings in more $$$) which would open up the contract.

Another option for both is if ESPN/AAC would sign a long-term extension (basically a new contract for more $$$$) after say Year 3 or 4 or 5...which would stop AAC from going out on the open market (to maybe FOX, NBC, or CBS) after Year 6...so ESPN increases the pay early in exchange for more years down the road.

I doubt anone in this conference would be willing to sign a GOR. I think the 5-10 million range is possible (depending on how we perform on the field and in the ratings), but I dont think it will happen until we are close to finishing the existing 6 years remaining on the current deal. There is very little motivation for ESPN to rip up our current deal even if we were willing to add 6 extra years. Aresco likes to be positive, (and I like that), but understand that it's not very realistic to expect a network to tear up the current very cheap and lucrative deal just so they can pay us 3-5 times what we currently make. Right now they own us lock stock and barrel for 20 million a year.

The only way to increase the money on this horribly undercompensated deal is to add years to the back end. Personally, I think that just has us negotiating from a weak position and makes a low paying bad deal longer. Our leverage gets much better when we get closer to this contracts conclusion. Assuming we continue to perform solidly, I think we are best just dealing with this bad contract and negotiating a much better deal who we enter the renegotiation cycle. I think we could walk away with a contract in the 6-10 million range that way. An extension will just tie us to a 4-millionish contract for 12 years. That's a number that's still too close to the other G5's to create real separation. If we can get in the 6-10 million per team range, we will have created enough separation with the other G5's to reach that tweener conference designation. That should be our goal. Instant gratification is not the way to go here.

Yeah I would agree. I think it would have to be 10 million + for them to even consider a GOR. Would depend on the length as well.

Aresco stated they were trying to get the Pac12 in Miami Beach bowl still...a good possibility since Pac12 only has 7 tie ins for 12 teams. They could use an 8th.

Yeah we need to do the same thing we did with BYU. Trade one of those lesser bowls (Cure, Bahamas, Boca) to CUSA/MAC/Sun Belt in order to get the PAC 12 there. If we had them and BYU it would help build the bowl.

Here's a couple articles about the AAC and ECU joining, detailing Aresco's visit.

Only thing I'm reading is without a look-in BYUs interest would be less likely IMO.

BYU may feel the pressure to get back into a conference if they can't perform on their own over the next 5 years or so. Wait and see.
