That would have been a historically bad trade by the ACC. Fortunately for all involved, things worked out quite differently.

RE: Kentucky to the ACC
I'm not sure that UK would have had the votes of MD or UVa back in the early 90's. MD has traditionally been anti-expansion and tied into most of the league blackballs or exits when things went not to their liking. I think they would have attempted to obtain a third no from either NC State or Wake Forest. A no vote from NC State would have been a high probability going back to bad blood between Rupp and Everett Case.

MD was not for Florida in the 1970's (that's so far back that few remember that UF considered moving). MD was against Penn State in the 80's. They didn't want FSU in the 90's. They were the impetus for the pull out of the Southern Conference in 1953, and they partnered with UVa to blackball VT and WVa . MD was not for adding ND under the current football agreement.

However, the reasons that UK was interested is the same reason that the non-football powerhouses in the B10 would have interest.

What I find curious is are the types of stories that seem to be surfacing now that MD and Rutgers are on the cusp of joining the B10. A story that the B10 had to add them, a story about Kentucky - I wonder what's next - perhaps the dishing of the dirt on PSU, the ACC, and MD?

Truth be told if the opportunity ever arouse for ND-(I know NOT HAPPENING) to join full time you couldn't do any worse than Kentucky...they do have one hellva basketball brand...

How dare you you express such anti-Tobacco Road group think sentiment.

Why is that so anti-Tobacco Road?
All of the Tobacco Road schools would have beaten Kentucky on a regular basis.
If Kentucky had to play in a real basketball conference they might not be viewed so highly.

If Kentucky was already in the ACC, They would probably have Blackmailed Us though. We might have then been in the SEC but doubtful. Glad things worked out. 8 more Days to get through!

True...but if the opportunity ever arose to grab them...do it...here is a reason why:

From the Article:

June 23, 2014

LEXINGTON, Ky.
In one of the most valuable partnerships of its kind in college athletics history, University of Kentucky officials announced Monday that JMI Sports has been awarded UK’s athletics and campus multimedia marketing rights with a 15-year, $210 million agreement.

“This partnership reflects the fact that the University of Kentucky is a national brand with the largest and most loyal fan base in all of intercollegiate athletics,” UK Athletics Director Mitch Barnhart said. “The size of this partnership – and our partnership with an emerging force in college sports in JMI Sports – will enable us to maintain and grow as one of the country’s few financially self-sustaining programs, allowing us to continue to provide incredible educational opportunities to more than 450 young men and women as well as continue to partner with the university in unique and distinctive ways.”

As a football fan first...I'm very thankful the ACC didn't add Kentucky, unless it was a swap for FSU

RE: Kentucky to the ACC
Wow, one of those schools in the "greatest basketball conference ever" list doesn't belong. Hint: They wear red. Hint: They are part of the god's gift to everything state. Hint: They've stolen your school's promotional campaign, possibly more than once.
