I truely think ESPN will ask the best of the MWC to merge with the AAC to form the sixth power conference resulting in the P6. The new American after the merger:
Connecticut
Temple
Cincinnati
Memphis
East Carolina
Central Florida
South Florida
Tulane
Tulsa
SMU
Houston
Colorado State
BYU (replaces Navy)
Boise State
Fresno State
San Diego State

I doubt it will ever happen, but I would say under those terms they would keep Navy and go to 4 pods:
1 - UCONN, Temple, Cincy, Navy
2 - UCF, USF, ECU, Memphis
3 - Houston, SMU, Tulane, Tulsa
4 - BSU, Fresno, SDSU, BYU
9 game conference schedule and you face all 3 in your pod each year and 2 from each of the others (1 home, 1 away). So east only goes west one time. Not much you can do to help the West teams though.

No I don't. I am just mystified that so many around here think a team that finished tied for 3rd in C-USA will finish at that same level in the AAC. They seem to think this year's AAC is no better than last year's C-USA, which boggles me.

BTW, I readily agree that USF has been lousy the last couple of years. We're working on that. But that has no connection to my beliefs about ECU.
Ill give you UCF, Cincy, Houston. They are very plausible.
Who will finish ahead of us? USF? Tulane? SMU? Serious question.
Frankly, I am rather surprised that so many around here think that a team that finished tied for 3rd in C-USA will likely do at least that well in the AAC.
No respect for the AAC whatsoever.
Totally dodged the question. In the other thread you ranked ECU as the 4th best team in the AAC. . . you backpedaled by saying that you didn't think they would finish there only start. So who do you think will finished ahead of ECU.
I didn't backpedal at all, I just explained the difference between what I think the pre-season top 10 will be and what I think the actual final top-10 will be.
FWIW, I figure ECU to finish behind Cincy, UCF, USF, Houston, and UConn. Sixth place sounds about right for the co-third C-USA team.

Not sure why that would be so shocking, a team that finished 2nd in C-USA won the conference just last year. And that was with Louisville still in conference.

You bring up a good point that I think some others are overlooking. The deck is stacked against some teams more than others. Let's pretend we know that UCF, Cincy, UH and ECU are really going to be the best teams. We roll the dice against two of them. USF, Tulane, SMU, and Temple have to play all four. To think that won't have an impact on the final standings is foolish.
Let's say UCF, UH and Cincy are clearly the cream of the crop next year and that the middle is pretty indistinguishable. Other middle teams still have to play 3 of the top teams in conference and we still have to play 2. Then they still roll the dice on us which could go either way.
Like NBPirate said, if we stay injury free I think we will be in the top 4.

Go ahead and show some from the Marshall game.
Bottom line: a third place C-USA finish is no basis for tapping ECU for great things in the AAC.

Getting spanked by Mcneese St. and winning only two games is no basis for tapping USF to finish top half or above ECU.
Oh, we lost two games in conference, Tulane on the road in double OT and got our butts handed to us by Marshall on the road on their Senior day, with them wanting revenge for last years game and we were leaving CUSA, and we came out flat, it called a prefect storm. We still went 10-3, 2-1 vs ACC teams, winning two of those on the road.
And, if CUSA is sooo weak, please explain this,

No need, Marshall actually has the weakest OOC, followed by NCState. Your fine for now.

I appreciate the thought, but that's not a Power conference. Just a larger collection of misfit toys. Can you really imagine the B1G and SEC being willing to share playoff money equal with this?

Bottom line...a 2nd place CUSA team was picked to finish 4th in the AAC last year and went UNDEFEATED in Conf Play, finished with a 12-1 record...which included beating #6 Baylor in the last BCS Fiesta Bowl.
Yeah...its impossible for a good team from CUSA to perform well in AAC....NOT.
What a shock...quo is trolling again.
