That they sure did. But I was always a Pete & Sam's guy.

Which reminds me of another place I liked near Pete & Sam's....

Arthur Treachers Fish & Chips (I hope I didn't misremember that)

Yep can't pin point the Arthur Treachers location but my older sister worked there for minimum wage and all the left overs she could carry home.

Damn, you're right. Impressive. I remember that Sears store at Christmas when they had all the toys sent up downstairs.

Sears & Roebuck also had a line of sporting goods endorsed by Ted Williams such as fishing rods, shot guns, and outdoor and trolling motors

Yes, you are 100% on target.

If I remember correctly, prior to those items being sold with Ted Williams' endorsement/name, they were "J C Higgins" items. J C Higgins continued to be a Sears brand on other items, such as bicycles, etc; but the outdoor sporting goods line became Ted Williams' signature line.

They had a J C Higgins bike with a front fork that had a coiled spring on it that I wanted more than anything. That bike and a Schwinn Collegiate with one of those 3 speed thumb shifters were like a dream of mine.

Sears also sold motorcycles under the Allstate Logo. There was a car too but I do not want this to become a Sears memory lane thread

I remember the Allstate motorcycle & the car. I think I recall Sear also selling through their catalog, kits for sheds, barns & even small cottages. My mom used to order school clothes for my brother & I in our elementary yrs through the catalog each August before schools started and she would tell us they had to last all year. We were a middle class family back then in the 50s - just goes to show how "middle class" has changed & the advancements since.

Yep, it's on you. How about the popsicle vehicles that canvassed the neighborhoods & were round with polka dots on the sides?

Da Merry mobile!

There was also an African American Guy who drove a green truck with Popsicles and drumsticks and dreamcycles...etc..... They rang a bell didn't they. And we all yelled Popsicle Man and ran to get some money.

Sears had Toughskin jeans and "the Winner" tennis shoes. They looked like adidas except they had 4 stripes.

Press-Scimitar rip. 10/31/1983.

I delivered the Press back in 1969. I delivered the paper in the neighborhood right across from the Cherokee Bowling. Man the people that didn't pay their bill. 04-cheers

Wow! Going on 700 posts.

I also delivered the Press zipping around on my Honda Cub 50. Believe it or not I gave a receipt to each and every customer on collection day. $1.75 a month and some still complained about the price like I had some say. I even tossed the paper on their porch and not in the yard or drive. Service baby!

The Press Scimitar always had the better sports section.

Reminds me of the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun-Times when I lived up there. The Sun-Times was always a better read regarding sports.

Wasn't there a place in Parkway Village called Mr. Swiss? It was like a Dairy Queen. I remember it because it was a Hot Rod hang out back in the 70's at least I think that is what i remember.
