Meh, I played it as a kid through the program at the Y for about 5 years. It was a great time, but I like all of us, we moved on to more popular sports like football and basketball.

You are actually incorrect. Soccer ranks 4th among child sport particpation.

LOL the same figures.

the issue with your figure is that it counts from ages 6 through 17. if you look at the age breakdown basketball, soccer & baseball absolutely dominate in the early age groups while football & volleyball are virtually non existent compared to them.

No, this doesn't say how many kids are participating, and when added together, where each sport falls. For example, football is going to be heavily skewed toward boys.

Eh, you've always had a problem with me so I don't really care what you think.

I just feel that Google could find something better than an event that's causing a lot of trouble right now. I didn't have an issue with it yesterday, but things have greatly escalated since then, that's why I mentioned it.

for every idiot that has a problem with google celebrating this there are maybe 10,000 who actually like it. i say google made the correct call here.

There is an Irish bar here in Memphis called Celtic Crossing. When there are big soccer matches it fills up with genuine Irishmen, doing what Irishmen are famous for. You know getting drunk etc. I'd love to see you go in there and tell them they are liberal. I'll buy your beer, deal?

They're Irish, DUH...

That's like a Canadian liking hockey... I think Dixie is talking more towards American-Americans, not Irish- Americans.

oh boy, you just had to add a lil bit of racism into this thread..........

Do you call a black man racist if he says something about blacks?

his figure counts all 17 & under "kids." hence the reason are skewed that way. his link clearly shows that at the early ages soccer & baseball are the two biggest sports.

because it takes only 5 to make a team, and has an abundance of courts.

baseball has plenty of baseball fields, plus a number of professional baeball leagues propping it up.

no sport does less with more than soccer, and I also must add that dixies link doesn't account for indoor soccer which accounts for a large number of youth soccer players.

Lots of protests and police responses going on in Brazil right now. It still doesn't change the fact that the World Cup is the most popular sports event on the planet.

See, what did I tell you. Where there is soccer, there is violence and chaos. All to watch a boring game of a ball being kicked around.

But it's clearly over your head, and many others so yeah, even though it's totally political, I guess you might as well relate it to being a sports thread.

Brazil was a terrible choice to host the Cup. For all intents and purposes it is a third world country with unbelievable extremes. The people have a right to be pissed over the money spent on a sport while they starve to death in slums.

There, I'm an extremely conservative American soccer fan, and I stuck to your topic for this post.

Everybody keeps directing the liberal/conservative output at me but I've not yet stated the political movement of this sport. I hate soccer, that's true, but at least you knew where I was coming from. I really don't care what Google does, this is all just my opinion and I never expected it to go more than a page...
