Another tenet of the Carolina Way.... character assassination. They're the dirtiest players in the game and have been that way for a long time.
Their attacks on the whistle blower and anyone who says anything say the administration really doesn't care. They just don't want to get caught again. There's no one since SMU who so deserved the death penalty. Jan Kemp suffered some of that, but UGA learned their lesson (and paid). UNC hasn't learned their lesson.

As for UNC's image, I think anyone with an African American studies degree is going to have a hard time getting an interview. And the rest will have to live with jokes. The UNC degree has been undermined. It will take many years to undo that. The administration is making that worse by pretending the problems were isolated and based on one man. They're stretching out the story.

nothing will happen to UNC beyond a slap on the wrist...nothing

then in about four months after this clears UNC Ashville will be investigated and hammered with some heavy penalties
so the NCAA can make an 'example' out of somebody to show they have teeth and cheating doesn't pay.

"THE" Ohio State U is the same way....Maurice Clarrett was everybody's darling until he got caught and turned on the hand that fed. Then every Bucknut fan in the land did nothing but rip the guy, say he was a liar, a thug, etc etc etc to discredit him and protect the program. He became a joke in Cbus which is sad because in reality, the kid was just telling the truth.

Evidently UNC has concluded that the solution to their problems is to double down. "Just win baby just win" and everyone will forget the past. I can hear Roy Williams now, "son I don't care if you can't read, this is the land of opportunity; you sign with me and you'll have that "dumbgree" to hang on the wall at the carwash you work for."

I seriously doubt it; however, this time the basketball program is in the crosshairs so those past NCAA Championships are on the line.

I have no problem with people "wanting to come clean" or wanting to "purge" themselves by telling the truth. My belief is this - if you had no problem with the dirt you committed during the process, then why would you want to come clean now after so many years? To me, it always seems like a motive to make money and/or to get back at someone. This is the main reason why stories like this usually fall on deaf ears with me.

Or maybe he's just coming clean because everyone else is talking about it. And it totally makes sense in view of everything else that has come out. The UNC version that this was one rogue professor is pretty ridiculous.

NCAA getting killed in public for ignoring this, especially in view of the O'Bannon case.

RE: McCants Goes on ESPN Again
I have said previously that I still view UNC as a top school, but it is simply not possible for me to view them in a somewhat lesser light based on the fact that when all of this finally came out the first thing they did was pretty much try and destroy the academic career of the professor that said "enough"

that in and of itself is just disgusting.......but at the same time there are the vast majority of students there (especially in meaningful majors) that are getting a very high quality and beneficial education

and I think really this points to the collapse that higher education is unfortunately going to experience where professors teach garbage courses and PC indoctrination crap that is useless for anything other than producing mush brains and they give no thought to cranking out thousands and thousands of students with degrees that are meaningless and nothing but a sign of being able to regurgitate PC crap that has been spoon fed and spewed at them and that have been shouted down and berated if they even attempt to question it much less easily prove it to be BS

the laughable thing is I was just reading something yet again from an "educator" laughing about getting calls from "helicopter parents" and being able to say FERPA and getting rid of them.......of course they were just disgusted that "snowflakes parent" would call them and how terrible that these parents and kids are like this......all while pretty much oblivious to the fact that higher education in the USA is the birthplace of that type of stupidity and foolishness and coddling and lack of responsibility and accountability and inability to mature or think for ones self

a large majority of faculty on most campuses hate athletics for the most part, but if it funnels students into their worthless departments and majors and programs and classes and allows them to collect that revenue for their department they will turn a blind eye to that in a heartbeat and even welcome it and throw one of their own under the bus as soon as that is threatened

and if you toss a few grand at these unprepared illiterates VS making it where they can't step foot on campus they will view that as "justice" and "fairness" and they will go right back to running them through fake classes and useless degree programs while spoon feeding them the answers and inflating their grades and sending them into the world often dumber and more entitled and irresponsible than they were before they arrived

and make no mistake about it academia is a "trickle up" industry when it comes to jobs.......it is in no way shape or form a "corporation" with "the evil boss" and the "worker bee" because to be an "evil boss" in academia you almost exclusively have to get a PhD from academia and then work in academia and move up through academia........it is one of the most inbred systems there is

so those at the top are a product of the system at the bottom and the system at the bottom is producing those that will move to the top.......so it is impossible for the vast majority of faculty to claim "outrage" because the only outrage they could express is at themselves and the piss poor condition they have allowed higher education and college athletics to fall to

and Harvard and others like them have had academic scandals and it is a product of what I have said above......a system that has lost the ability to have actual meaningful judgement and accountability and it comes in the form of grade inflation and the concept that no idea is without merit no matter how feckless and stupid and unsupported or easily refuted it may be........you just simply can't question it and who are you to say it doesn't have merit or value and probably if you attempt to place value on it well you will just be using the wrong system of values and that is why it fails to have worth in that particular value system......but in some fantasy value system or some value system that has failed repeatedly......why it is a solid concept

it is just the idea that "well these are Harvard students so they must be good students" or "we simply can't brand them a failure because we just don't know if they will fail for the long term".......never mind the concept it to actually TEACH SOMETHING and then find a way to quantify if a student has even managed to learn it or understand it.......even if it is a theory that has been proven wrong a thousand times that does not mean you can't still teach what the theory was attempting to establish.....AND WHY IT FAILED TO ESTABLISH THAT.....or even the concepts of why it was first postulated...there is something to be learned from right and wrong.....but when you move to where wrong is no longer possible well you have nothing to teach or evaluate just A+s As and A-s to hand out.....like at Harvard

this issue at UNC and what is going on with college athletics in general would be a great chance for UNC and higher education in general to really have some inner reflection and self evaluation......unfortunately the forces of "toss some equality dollars" and "slay class warfare" are going to step in and allow actual educational values and critical judgement to move further from the equation
