He's more like somebody who strikes it rich one week, and ends up in the gutter the next week. That's takes a special kind of intelligence. But I wouldn't call it genius.

It would be interesting to watch the glacier of the last ice age melting from space, and seeing vast amounts of water rushing over the land on its march to the sea.

I'll pass on most of human history. But things visible from space have always held a certain fascination for me.

Friendly reminder, Captain Cook didn't make it back to Britain.

That would be one hell of a ride! I can't imagine the feeling inside a metal capsule with a "heat-shield" when the re-entry through the earth's atmoshpere occurred. In terms of the earliest space pioneers, Alan Sheppard got the best deal - first American in space and he later landed on the moon.
Quote: At the age of 47, he was the oldest astronaut in the space program at the time. Before leaving the lunar surface, Shepard, an avid golfer, unfolded a collapsible golf club and hit two balls. The first landed in a nearby crater, but according to Shepard, the second flew for "miles and miles."

A great movie about the U.S space program that is a bit long but worth watching is The Right Stuff if you've never seen it.

IMO Custer would have been better off with less ego, and more brains.

+1 Custer was an idiot. He only prevailed during the WBTS due to the "Peter Principle". He got what he deserved in the end. A bullet to the head and one to the chest and no offspring to advance his name!

That one was good, but a better portrayal was Tom Hanks mini-series on HBO named "From the Earth to the Moon"

Do you know True Bearcat where his unit deployed and what operations/missions they served? That would be something to experience.

Yes I do. He was in the 1018th combat Engineers in the 5th Army. He was deployed to Morroco was part of the Sicily invasion, landed near Anzio but was involved in the fighting at Cassino. They then invaded Southern France liberated two concentration camps and ended at Hitler's Lair in the mountains of Austria. He was in the European theatre for 27 months. If the bombs were not dropped on Japan he would have taken part in the Invasion.

If I could go back in time, I would want to interview Robert Oppenheimer. Fascinating character. Well, not so much "interview" but discuss things over a couple drinks.
