The Battle for LA
does sound good, except a lot of people might
take it as the Battle for Louisiana.

Going back to the state nut, the pecan, we could name it something like The Big Pecan Bowl or Battle of the Golden Pecan or Battle of the Big Pecan or something like that because let's face it, we're all a little nuts!

"The Battle for L.A. (Lower Alabama)" - I like that - +1
So USA and Troy are going to Duke it out over the Florida Panhandle which is referred to as LA.

To get technical, West Florida extended all the way to Louisiana at one time. If you listen to residents of the southern part of Florida, they will refer to North Florida as "South Georgia".
Escambia County, Alabama and Escambia County, Florida (Pensacola) share a border. At one time, during the 80's, there were some activist in Pensacola that advocated for Escambia Florida to succeed from Florida and merge with Escambia Alabama because the cultural ties were closer to Alabama than the rest of Florida. It was funny until it was discovered the folks were serious.
"Pensacola, Alabama"
The area from Pensacola to Ft. Walton is called the Redneck Riviera.

RE: Name for South Alabama - Troy game?
The panhandle of Florida (from Tallahassee west) tried to break away from Florida over 5 times to join the state of Alabama. The panhandle residents were in favor of it, but political opposition (mainly from the Florida governor) prevented it each time. If the panhandle residents and Alabama residents had their way, Alabama would stretch from Mobile to Tallahassee on the Gulf Coast.
It's kind of interesting that if this annexation passed, Florida would still be the 4th most populous state, behind California, Texas, and New York. However, Alabama would go from 23rd most populous to 18th most populous.

"The Battle OF Mobile Bay" will have to be reserved for games with Navy. But how about the "Battle FOR Mobile Bay"? Or simply "The Battle"? The winner gets the bay areas best recruit.

Mobile is called "The City of Six Flags" because Mobile has been part of 6 different territories/nations. I believe Mobile is the only city in America that can make this claim. It was French first, followed by British, Spanish, Republic of Alabama, Confederate States, and finally United States of America.

To be technical:
It was French first, followed by British, Spanish, United States of America, Republic of Alabama, Confederate States, and finally back to United States of America (after a beat down).

Pensacola can claim the same thing but they don't fly the flag of the short lived Republic of Florida. Hence the City of Five Flags.
And the order was a little different. It was Spanish, French, British, US, Republic of Florida (Not represented), Confederate, and then back to US.
And technically it went Spanish, French, Spanish, British, Spanish, US, RoF, Confederate, US.
There is a cool statue of Bernardo de Galvez (the guy that handed over Florida to Andrew Jackson) downtown with a plaque explaining all the different phases of Pensacola's ownership.
