Great story and, well, Rachel Weisz.

I liked Enemy at the Gate, in spite of my disdain for Ed Harris and the fact that

Forgot about the 1957 WWI movie Paths of Glory directed by Stanley Kubrick and stars Kirk Douglas as French Colonel Dax. I can't imagine fighting trench warfare but this scene gives you an idea...

Tora, Tora, Tora and Midway come to mind. I liked In Harms Way despite it being a bit embellished.

Worst war movie ever wasn't really a war movie at all: Pearl Harbor. I felt dirty about giving those bastards even a penny of my money for that steaming pile of crap.

Guilty pleasure of mine... Glory. Did it take some creative licensing? Absolutely. But I loved every minute of it.

gettysburg is being mentioned a lot. didn't care for that movie, mostly because I thought that martin sheen made robt. e. lee out to be a weirdo.

Robert Duvall was a much better R.E. Lee in Gods and Generals, and even he didn't "nail it". Gods and Generals and Gettysburg were both much better in the Director's Cuts than in the Theatrical Releases, but no one was going to sit in a theater for a 4 hour movie so they butchered the films to get it to three hours.

It's nerdy but I used to force my grandma to rent Gettysburg for me every time we went to the beach. I've seen that move so many damn times.

It's a shame Gods and Generals was so horrendous because the third movie, Killer Angels may have been decent.

If you haven't seen the Director's Cut of Gods and Generals it might be worth your time to look for it. I liked it much better than the original cut.

I have, an ex got it on DVD for me. Which, come to think of it, I've probably lost it.

I still enjoyed the movie as is but only because I liked the depiction. As a movie, and as for being entertaining or engaging, it was atrocious.

Still, thank you for the suggestion. And, you're right, it was much better.

I'd preferred Gods and Generals over Gettysburg. But I have both on DVD. Unless you're ready to block out a day, don't watch both in a row.

I just watched Lone Survivor this weekend. They took some liberty with the story, but that's Hollywood (I read the book a couple years ago). I'm afraid they'll do the same with "American Sniper".
