RE: American Soldier Bowe Bergdahl Freed by Taliban in Prisoner Trade
CNN’s Liberal Legal Analyst Jonathan Turley: Obama “Clearly Broke The Law” With Bergdahl Prisoner Swap…
And Obama clearly doesn’t care. He is laughing about it no doubt.
Quote:CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin declared on Monday that President Barack Obama “broke the law” when his administration failed to give Congress notice of at least 30 days before releasing five ranking Taliban members from Guantanamo Bay. Toobin said that a presidential signing statement did not absolve Obama from culpability for failing to abide by the law mandating congressional notification.
“I think he clearly broke the law,” Toobin said. “The law says 30-days’ notice. He didn’t give 30-days’ notice.” Toobin added that Obama’s opinion expressed in a signing statement “is not law.”
“The law is on the books, and he didn’t follow it,” Toobin added.
CNN anchor Wolf Blitzer noted that former President George W. Bush also issued signing statements even though they thought their action may not have been constitutional or legal. “But liberals were outraged by George W. Bush’s signing statements,” Toobin noted.

I think the obamites feel the blowback on this one. Bringing our guy home, even if he deserted, is one thing. Trading 5 extremely bad guys, several of which have committed war crimes, and of which had direct ties to bin laden, is another thing entirely.
This is the sort of incredibly stupid decision that gets made in an echo chamber -- especially when they desperately want to change the subject.

This deal stinks so bad that even Tingles is questioning it. That tells you just how rotten this deal was. Barry of course could give a crap what people think about it.
RE: American Soldier Bowe Bergdahl Freed by Taliban in Prisoner Trade
the job titles of the 5 guys . . . freaking alarming.
They include the former Taliban minister of the interior, Taliban deputy minister of defense, Taliban deputy minister of intelligence, a senior Taliban military commander, and the Taliban governor of Herat Province.

NYT. He left a note in his tent:
Said he was disillusioned with the army. Said he did not support the American mission in Afghanistan. I'm leaving to start a new life.
Sources inside the intel community are saying he's not only a deserter but an active collaborator with the enemy.
Pentagon is saying he was never a pow.
Yesterday it was believed at least 6 were killed looking for him. Today it's possibly up to 14.
RE: American Soldier Bowe Bergdahl Freed by Taliban in Prisoner Trade
Since Bowe has, in the words of Susan Rice, "...served the United States with honor and distinction...", Obama should short circuit any fake scandal run up by the Republicans, and issue a pardon for any alleged offenses that he may have committed.

Have a feeling the admin is going to regret parading this exchange in front of the world. If this guy is a deserter, then the military has to react, if not the I'd imagine morale would decrease especially given all those brave men and women that have servied over the last decade.

General Dempsey: Army Will Investigate Desertion Claims Against Bergdahl…
Quote: WASHINGTON – Gen. Martin Dempsey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Tuesday the Army may still pursue an investigation into the conduct of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was recently freed after nearly five years of being held captive in Afghanistan.
Gen. Dempsey told the Associated Press that U.S. military leaders “have been accused of looking away from misconduct” but said “it’s premature” to assume they would do so in Sgt. Bergdahl’s case.
Sgt. Bergdahl was recently freed from nearly five years of being held in captivity by the Taliban in Afghanistan in exchange for the transfer of five former Guantanamo Bay prison detainees to Qatar.
Some of Sgt. Bergdahl’s fellow soldiers have in recent days said he essentially abandoned his post in 2009 when he was taken captive by the Taliban. The Washington Times also reported Monday that the Pentagon on multiple occasions knew where Sgt. Bergdahl was being held but commanders scrapped rescue missions because they were unwilling to risk casualties for a man they believed to be a “deserter,” according to sources familiar with the plan.

The Taliban successfully use this guy as bait to kill other Americans. In a simular way wounded servicemen were used as bait in the Vietnam war. The tactic worked. Bergdahl should be court-martialed. A dishonorable discharge at minium.
