5. UAB will be the forgotten team at the Battle 4 Atlantis: It's easy to see why in a field featuring Butler, Florida, Georgetown, North Carolina, Oklahoma, UCLA and Wisconsin. But that doesn't mean the Blazers aren't going to be a nuisance for one of those seven in the opening round. UAB returns its top two scorers in Chad Frazier (17.7 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists last season) and C.J. Washington (13.0 points, 6.9 rebounds) and adds high-level newcomers in Virginia Tech transfer Robert Brown and freshman power forward William Lee. The 6-9 Lee chose the Blazers over several SEC schools and should be have an immediate impact. Brown is an anchor at shooting guard who averaged 6.8 points two years ago at an ACC school. Don't be surprised if UAB winds up putting fear into the hearts of a couple of BCS programs during Thanksgiving weekend. The Blazers have a chance to challenge Louisiana Tech in Conference USA.

Beating North Carolina just last year seems relevant too.

I think the key about this team is the threat to score from anywhere. Last year with Frazier, I felt much like we were with Vaden. Sometimes I felt that other guys were too comfortable sitting back and watching to see what Frazier could do. We have other talented players, but they seemed to be either hampered by injury or by psychological baggage.

Next year with the type of players we have coming in, I don't think we're going to see alot of passing the ball to Frazier to see what he can do. Brown, Washington, Lee, among others will all be looking to score on the offensive end in and around the paint which will free up more space for Frazier and our other perimeter players.

Just hope Tosin can hold his own down low, if we don't get another big man to fill in.

I think the biggest thing for UAB is to build confidence in the first few games with so many newcomers. As talented as they may be, it is still going to take time for the unit to gel as a team in actual game time situations. If UAB can go 1-2 in the Atlantis and be competitive, I would be tickled pink!

Still not the same as playing games that count.
