RE: Alabama will play anybody for their 12th game
I'm not scared of them any more than I am LSU, or Ohio State, or Oklahoma.
I just think that all it will do is fan the fires between the campuses, make things worse for us in our position under the BOT.
Some bammer fans do have some small sympathy and empathy for the position we're stuck in. Get on their football schedule and they'll let slip the dogs of war and anything like that will go right out the window.
UA/UAB is nothing like UA/AU or Texas/Texas A&M. UA holds our purse strings, and if they decide to screw us over we can't do a damn thing about it.

The bottom line is UAT will never agree to game against UAB because of the "what if" factor. Our guys have nothing to lose. Their team can't afford to lose.

UAB Football is so down right now, UAT could probably trot their 2 & 3 deep roster out and beat us by 35 or more pts. That what if really existed when Watson was coach and UAT was just average. Now, I wouldn't want UAB to have no part of Alabama in football.

RE: Alabama will play anybody for their 12th game
The point of my post was not that it was even in the realm of possibilities that we would play them - my point was... call their bluff.
They say something like - we will play ANYBODY. It would have been hilarious for Mackin to say, "Hey, we are interested in that game." The response would have been great. I think it gets to some of their elitist attitude that we would even be able to play them.

Add to that the possibility of actually paying a six figure check to any instate school like they lavish every year (and often a seven figure payout) on other state's teams? Imagine the novelty of actually investing in your own state's schools! [ But our state's Revenue Commissioner says we can't send the $40 for an out of state's school vanity auto tag to any out of state school because "that just would not be right to send "Alabama dollars" to another state's school".]

When did it become "their job" to pay out almost $3 million to Kent State and Colorado State? Alabama (the state as well as its major universities) have always found it impossible to invest in their own state's people or their interests. That is part of the problem that is keeping the state at the bottom "rungs" of most favorable state comparison "ladders", and at the top of many negative ones.

No, but it IS the Board of Trustees' job.

Seriously? This crap again?
With as small of a fanbase as we have, a 70-0 blowout loss to Alabama would only further degrade and humiliate us as a fanbase.
I don't ever want to see UAB play Alabama.

Last time I checked, the BOT doesn't make the football schedule. Nor should they.
No, but being a road block isn't their job, either.

I recall that a similar figure was predicted to be the result of the UAB @ Auburn game in 1996. After all it was our first ever D1 game and we were playing them at their home stadium. It did NOT turn out as predicted.
UAB has lost to far lesser teams by that big a score and we are still chugging along toward another season in about 90 days. If fear is our dominant emotion in playing the best schools, we will continue to be what we have been for the past decade. I believe that with the new FBHC and his staff with their new recruits coming in, UAB has started an upswing in our fortunes and should be willing to play anyone in a fair game.
BTW, I remember that before the 2000 season, UAB was asked which OOC game (Kansas or LSU) should count as a conference game since we were one short. UAB chose Kansas figuring we had a better chance of winning there. You can never know how a game will turn out.

Having to use a season from 14 years ago is telling.

Some lessons in life are not "of short term only" significance. Just because time has passed, one doesn't have to touch a hot stove periodically to learn again that it is not smart.
