That's one reason I found this interesting.

Yeah, there is something way off or skewed with this. For example, there are 65 Lowe's stores in Georgia with an average of 100 employees each. That's 6500 for just one retail chain. You would have to assume Home Depot, Wal Mart, McDonald's, and Chic til A have more based the volume of stores and offices.

I can't possibly imagine that A&M is 50K
even counting the fact that they have extension personnel in every county or almost every county that still does not seem possible
even with 10 extension people per county that is still under 3K........their health sciences center is not really that large so I can't see them having massive numbers of employees and they would have to have 25K+ in College Station to get close to that 50K
then they have Belton ISD at #16.......again I find that impossible unless Belton ISD is doing some type of "servicing" for a massive number of other school districts in Texas under contract.......even more so when HISD is not listed above them
then #23 is Texas A & M University-Nwsppr.......really the Texas A&M news paper with 7500 what are they doing printing newspapers for the entire state under contract
they have Texas Tech University System at 8,000 then they list Texas Tech separate at 5,000 and then they list Angelo State separate at 5,000.......well both are a part of the Texas Tech System for one thing and Texas Tech is a much much larger university than Angelo State so it would be impossible that they have the same number of employees
and the UH System and the UH Main Campus are both larger than The Texas Tech System and Texas Tech and they are nowhere on the list and the Texas State University System is slightly larger than the UH System and not on the list and Texas State University is larger than Texas Tech and about 3X larger than Angelo State and again not on the list
that list is HIGHLY suspect
yes someone in college station probably put together those numbers. a-m's own website says they have about 5500 employees.
another strange one on the list was UT Online Services in Arlington
I know that UTA has a very large enrollment (in the thousands) that they count apart from their on campus enrollment and I am pretty sure that for a while the UT System ran their online courses from somewhere other than UT Austin and really UT Austin does not offer much in the way of online (neither does the UT System in general) and it was something like 5,000 employees I don't see how that would be possible either
uta does not count their online students in the 34,249 that they show for enrollment. they do say that there are 38,000 total counting online students. as for the downtown ft. worth and riverbend campus, not sure about those..I am amazed to know that there are 8,289 just in the school of nursing...

Old data. The Georgia Regents Enterprise is the merger of Augusta State University, Georgia Health Sciences University (former university-branch of MCG), and MCG Health (former hospital branch of GHSU), plus all of the remote campuses and clinics.
The GRU umbrella now has about 9,000 total employees across the state.
And where is Ft. Gordon on this? I know they have more than 5,000 employees working there.

Interesting, for Florida they must have calculated each Disney park/division separately. Otherwise, it would have nearly 2x the number of employees as the University of Florida.

State of Alabama - 9,500
Mobile County School Systems - 8,100
Redstone Arsenal has over 35,000 people working there now but it is not the states largest employer. About 15,000 are contractors and 19,500 are government civilians working for various agencies. Its the largest place of employment but a large percentage don't actually work for Redstone.

What about the State of Georgia. All of these state jobs. I would guess they would be in the top ten. Alll of the teachers are state employes. Add up all of the teachers from Pre school up to college.

A lot of Mcdonalds are franchises I believe and would not fall under just one employer. Ft. Benning is huge and is where a lot of training is conducted. Technically nothing comes close to the US Army in total over all in GA.

I know NC is not correct. Fort Bragg is the largest Military post as far as personnel in the Army, It has 40K + Soldiers and about that many civilians working there.

Interestingly Delta was started in Monroe then moved to Atlanta. The stock holders meeting was held in Monroe every year until about 10-15 years ago. Also, Centurylink is the largest company in Louisiana and based in Monroe. It is a Fortune 150 company.
