#9 or #10 National Seed
Chairman of the Selection Committee indicated that Rice and Vanderbilt were the "bubble teams" with regards to gaining a national seed....but both TCU and LSU won their conference tournaments....

Yep ... the two teams that were #7/#8 in RPI and highest RPI teams not be seeded.
My guess is that we were probably a mid-week win or two away from a seed. Don't have a problem with it given our 9-11 win against the Top 50.

Me neither...especially since I like our Regional and matchup with LSU Regional.
Ours should be the most exciting in the country with both UT and A&M.
ESPN website has our games at "Cougar Field".
Interesting that they compensated UH for not letting them host by allowing them to come home to Houston, should they get by LSU.

I'm guessing that we were a game or two away from literally the exact same brackets with us getting assigned LSU's seed.
Oh, well ... it is done.

And those might have been LSU's games in the SEC Tourney.

A tremendous accomplishment in itself, given the injuries.

Yes, what if we had Jordan Stephens all year. That was the great thing about the '03 team. We had Wade Townsend to start all the mi-week games.

Actually, I think the Committee had it down to EITHER LSU or Vandy and TCU or Rice (had Oklahoma State beaten TCU in the tourney championship). I'm a bit surprised as I think OSU still had the better overall resume than us, but their much lower RPI I guess would have kept them out of the national seed.

RE: #9 or #10 National Seed
With all of the appeal of the Rice-UT-TAMU-GMU regional, the woulda-coulda-shoulda scenario would have Rice as a national seed with a weaker group overall.
UT-TAMU-LSU/UH is a pretty tough path to go through to Omaha. If it weren't for the rough start vs TAMU, or picking up a game against UH, or perhaps both, the path could've been a lot easier.

A national seed does not get an easier regional necessarily. Just look at Florida's pairings vs. Miami's. The UT _ A&M pairing was just too enticing-- and obious-- for the Selection Committee to pass up, even if we were a national seed (as you could not send those two together to LSU, TCU or OSU).

Granted. And, I'd thought of that but didn't express myself clearly, and barely at all. The hypothetical weaker regional just depends on a different draw. TAMU (this year's version) and GWU aren't anything to be upset about, but having a two seed that was in the mix for a national seed 3-4 weeks ago is rough. But, the national seed would hopefully result in an easier (and home) super.
